CNC Engineer Position Description

Location: Acme Wire Products

Address: 2915 18th Ave, Broadview, IL 60155

Job type: Hourly – Full Time, (40 hours/Week)

Compensation: $20 - $35 hourly, pay will be commensurate with experience

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30PM

Position Overview

Acme Wire Products is seeking a hands-on CNC Engineer to help drive innovation across our manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for transforming customer concepts into production-ready solutions through product design, tooling development, CNC programming, process engineering, and continuous improvement. The CNC Engineer will own projects from concept through production by designing products and tooling, developing manufacturing processes, programming and operating CNC equipment, validating production methods, and collaborating with production teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions. This position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on the growth and future of our manufacturing capabilities.

Responsibilities

Product Development & Manufacturing Engineering

  • Develop new customer products from concept through production.
  • Review customer drawings, CAD models, and specifications to determine the most efficient manufacturing methods.
  • Improve existing designs for manufacturability, quality, and cost reduction.
  • Create engineering drawings, bills of materials, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Develop, validate, and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Support production by troubleshooting manufacturing and quality issues.

Tooling Design & Fabrication

  • Design, fabricate, assemble, and validate production tooling, fixtures, inspection gauges, workholding, and poka-yoke devices.
  • Engineer tooling for wire forming, CNC machining, welding, assembly, and secondary operations.
  • Improve existing tooling to increase safety, productivity, repeatability, and ease of setup.
  • Maintain tooling documentation and engineering standards.

CNC Programming & Machining

  • Program CNC equipment using Fusion 360 CAM or equivalent software.
  • Set up and operate CNC machining centers for tooling, prototype, and production work.
  • Optimize machining strategies, tooling, work holding, and cutting parameters.
  • Maintain CNC programs and setup documentation.

Project Management & Cost Estimating

  • Estimate tooling, labor, machining, and manufacturing costs for new customer opportunities.
  • Manage engineering projects from quotation through production release.
  • Coordinate activities between Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Quality, Customers, and Vendors.
  • Ensure projects remain on schedule while meeting quality objectives.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement improvements that increase productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Reduce setup times, downtime, and manufacturing waste.
  • Standardize manufacturing methods and engineering documentation.
  • Support automation and implementation of new manufacturing technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, welding, manufacturing processes, and GD&T.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate manufacturing equipment and power tools.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Benefits:

Compensation: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated ability to successfully lead personnel, maintain quality standards, and achieve departmental objectives.

Paid Time Off (PTO) & Vacation

• During the first year of employment, paid vacation time is accrued based on hours worked.

Company Description

Acme Wire Products (AWP) is a wire formation manufacturing business with two campuses in Broadview, IL. AWP primarily specializes in stainless steel & brite basic wire products ranging in gauges from 1/16 - 3/8. Many products are used in the barbeque and smoker industries, research & medical laboratories, restaurants and universal shelving/storage applications.

The company maintains a robust in-house tool & die workshop that collaborates with our design engineers to develop custom molds to ensure each product adheres to quality standards. Our departments include straight and cut, wire forming, TIG welding, resistance welding, trimming, passivation (degreasing), shipping & receiving (North Campus).
