Position Overview
Are you an experienced Project Manager with a deep understanding of HVAC and Plumbing systems across various industrial building types? Helm is seeking a proactive individual who can engage customers, navigate projects from conceptualization to completion, and deliver exceptional results through innovative management techniques.
This position is for our industrial division which is responsible for the HVAC, Plumbing, and Piping scopes of work for new construction projects as well as remodel work in buildings such as renewable energy facilities, chemical manufacturing plants, wastewater treatment facilities and other industrial building types. This role is located in our Westmont, IL office.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of Mechanical trade work, overseeing projects directly with owners and Construction Managers.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Utilize customer relations, project accounting, technical prowess, and cost control to drive project success.
  • Apply basic design and code knowledge effectively.
  • Supervise the entire construction process to ensure adherence to design, budget, and schedule, fostering relationships with clients, A/E representatives, and subcontractors.
  • Interpret and work from P&ID drawings, translating them into layouts and ISOs for construction.
  • Coordinate company personnel activities, ensuring efficient project execution.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with clients and A/E contacts to facilitate ongoing and future projects.
  • Monitor and control construction progress, analyzing variances and implementing corrective actions.
  • Manage financial aspects including buyouts, billings, payments, subcontractor agreements, expenses, and value engineering to protect company interests and client relationships.
  • Make critical decisions impacting project profitability.
  • Authorize and oversee all project transactions, including billings, subcontractor requisitions, and material purchases.
  • Maintain project logs and documentation files, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Apply expertise in mechanical systems (process piping, plumbing, HVAC) from project inception to closure, including conceptual design, estimating, pre-construction, and construction phases.
  • Demonstrate experience in both construction self-performance and direct craft labor oversight.
  • Previous experience as a Prime Contractor, engaging directly with owners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with BIM/CAD processes and fabrication practices on job sites.
  • Knowledge of scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera).
  • Knowledge of ASME code and how it applies to piping fabrication
  • Management of compliance records for weld procedures, welder certifications, and code updates

Requirements
  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management, plus a minimum of 5 years' experience in leadership roles specific to Mechanical Trade Work

OR
  • 10 years of progressive trade experience, including 5 years in construction leadership with a focus on Mechanical Systems.

Salary & Benefits
Range: $80,000-$125,000 annually.
