Position Summary
As a Welder Fabricator at ID3, a custom fabrication and scenic production company, you will be responsible for fabricating and welding metal components for custom builds, scenic elements, trade shows, exhibits, themed environments, and specialty structures. This role works closely with Carpentry, Scenic, Paint, and Project Management teams to transform creative concepts into high-quality finished products. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, safety-conscious, and capable of working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven fabrication environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, and specifications for custom fabrication projects
- Measure, cut, shape, fit, and weld aluminum, steel, and stainless-steel components using MIG and TIG welding processes
- Layout and fabricate structural and decorative metal components to precise dimensions and design specifications
- Mark build components for dimensional accuracy, hole placement, angles, and assembly requirements
- Perform grinding, sanding, drilling, cutting, and finishing operations to prepare materials and completed assemblies
- Inspect completed welds and fabricated components to ensure quality, strength, appearance, and compliance with specifications
- Operate fabrication equipment including saws, grinders, drill presses, plasma tables, and other metalworking machinery
- Collaborate with Project Managers and production departments to ensure projects remain on schedule and meet client expectations
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA standards, and quality control procedures
- Assist with loading, unloading, and occasional onsite installations as needed
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain production efficiency
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Completion of a welding apprenticeship program, trade school, or equivalent hands-on training
- Minimum of 2 years of welding and metal fabrication experience
- Proven experience with MIG and TIG welding
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and shop drawings
- Strong understanding of welding techniques, fabrication methods, and safety practices
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment accurately
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional welding certifications (MIG, TIG, or AWS certifications)
- Experience in scenic fabrication, custom exhibits, trade shows, theatrical environments, or themed entertainment
- Experience fabricating with aluminum, steel, and stainless steel
- Experience operating plasma tables and other advanced fabrication equipment
- Forklift and/or aerial lift certification
- Experience with one-off custom builds and mixed-material fabrication
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative production team
Work Environment
- Work is primarily performed in ID3โs fabrication shop with occasional onsite installation work
- Environment may include exposure to loud noise, welding fumes, sparks, heat, dust, and moving heavy equipment
- Projects are highly customized and deadline-driven, requiring flexibility and adaptability
- Work schedules may include overtime, evenings, and weekends based on production demands
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in various physical positions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and overhead welding
- Manual dexterity and strong hand-eye coordination required
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, saws, drills, and fabrication equipment
- Visual ability to inspect weld quality and fabrication accuracy
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Employees are required to properly wear and maintain all assigned PPE while performing job duties. Required PPE includes, but is not limited to:
- Welding helmet with appropriate lens shade
- Welding gloves and protective sleeves
- Safety glasses with side shields
- Closed-toe, slip-resistant work shoes or steel-toe boots
- Hearing protection
- Respiratory protection as required
- Additional PPE based on specific job tasks and site requirements
