Job description

We are looking for a Fitter/Welder with 2 or more years of experience to join our team. The Fitter/Welder supports Cooper Steel's goals, values, and philosophy by exhibiting the following behaviors: excellence, quality service, commitment, and accountability. POSITION SUMMARY
The Welder is responsible for understanding blueprints and welding techniques to execute the highest standards of welding performance. Weekend shift will be working Friday-Sunday from 5:30 AM - 5:30 PM. This shift will be 36 hours a week. Starting pay will be $27+ per hour. There will be a $2 per hour shift premium for this weekend shift position.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
โ€ข Interpret blueprints to fabricate structural steel
โ€ข Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
โ€ข Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
โ€ข Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions.
โ€ข Set up components for welding equipment in accordance with specifications (e.g. cut material with gad torch to match measurements)
โ€ข Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
โ€ข Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
โ€ข Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards
โ€ข Keep work areas clean and organized
REQUIREMENTS:
โ€ข Proven experience as welder and fitter
โ€ข Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (flux-core, MIG weld)
โ€ข Experience in using electrical or manual tools (grinder, squares, tape measure, hand tools)
โ€ข Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
โ€ข Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
โ€ข Attention to detail
โ€ข Ability to learn safe overhead crane operations
โ€ข Proficient in English
โ€ข Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent
Prior experience using overhead cranes is preferred
2 or more years of experience in fitting and welding is required
OTHER SKILLS
Strong interpersonal skills: ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; good judgment; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work effectively with others. While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to squat, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Lifting is required up to 75 lbs. Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position performs work mostly in the shop setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
