Work Schedule:
Summary
There are opportunities for board-eligible or certified pediatricians to join the Baylor College of Medicine Faculty, Section of Critical Care Medicine as Instructors, working in multiple ICUs pediatric intensive care units and cardiac intensive care units at Texas Children's Hospital Medical Center.
We are looking for individuals motivated to work in large academic pediatric intensive care units at the clinical instructor level. These roles will be somewhat flexible to fit the interests and needs of the applicant and our units, but in general each individual will work in all our Medical Center ICUs. Daily care will be performed in consultation with, and under the direct supervision of an attending physician until further experience and autonomy are gained. While these roles are primarily clinical, there will be opportunities for participation in academic endeavors including education, quality, and/or research.
Texas Children's Hospital is a leading academic children's hospital and is the largest free-standing children's hospital in the nation. We are in a state-of-the art expansion tower, which is home to our intensive care units, high intensity operating rooms, and the entire TCH Heart Center. There are currently 140 ICU beds in our relatively new Legacy Tower, admitting more than 6,000 critically ill children annually. The patient population includes all the pediatric sub-specialties including cardiac, trauma, oncology, transplant, pulmonary hypertension, ECMO, and all surgical subspecialties.
Job Duties
  • Provide care for patients in any one of our ICUs. We have 92 PICU beds that are organized into a surgical ICU, a neuro ICU, a transitional ICU (specifically for medically complex children with home medical equipment requirements), and 3 medical ICUs (one specializing in pulmonary pathology and the other in Heme/Onc/BMT). We also have 46 CICU beds, including a neonatal CICU and dedicated Heart Failure ICU.
  • During the day and night shift, the hospitalist(s) will be one of the front-line clinicians for the ICU patients.
  • The hospitalist(s) will manage the patients under the guidance of the attending ICU physician. Specific responsibilities will depend on level of experience and Section needs.
  • 14-16 shifts per month including nights and weekends. The schedule can be tailored to the individual's needs.
  • PALS certification required
  • Reporting to the Chief of Critical Care with supervision by Medical Directors of PICU and CICU
  • The appointment will be at Baylor Faculty, with opportunities for academic promotion after a period of service.
