Job description

Job Summary:
California Lutheran University is dedicated to educating leaders for a global society. The Network Administrator will administer, support, and maintain the university's campus network and telephone services, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of communication systems.
Responsibilities:
• Administer, and maintain the University network, telephone and voice services.
• Program, configure, maintain and install network equipment (switches, routers, access points, VoIP phones, cameras, etc.)
• Properly document product installation and configuration to assist in future installations and troubleshooting.
• Assist Technical support staff and Network Administrators troubleshoot problems with the network, phones, wireless access points, security cameras and access control.
• Monitor network throughput for issues and to improve network performance where possible.
• Install, splice, terminate, test, and label copper and fiber, phone and network cabling in underground pathways.
• Maintain job-related equipment, tools, and vehicle.
• Ensure that all network and telephone equipment is updated in the asset management system.
• Support the installation of phone and internet circuits supplied by outside vendors.
• Enhance expertise and demonstrate a desire to keep learning by attending occasional development opportunities including conferences, seminars, and online presentations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Any Combination equivalent to: Associates degree or three years of experience with network and voice cabling, phone system operation, VoIP phone and voicemail programming, adds, and changes.
• Networking services and common networking protocols (TCP/IP, SMB, IGMP, POP/SMTP, BGP, OSPF, RSTP; Ethernet media; network topology; local and wide area networks; wireless networks and related protocols)
• VoIP phone systems (Mitel and eFax solutions)
• Effective communications skills - written, verbal and interpersonal; ability to discuss problems with customers and ensure quick and proper trouble diagnosis to correct problem in least amount of time
• Operating Systems including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2016-2022; intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10/11; intermediate knowledge of Apple OS 11 and newer; beginning to intermediate knowledge of any flavor of Linux/Unix
• Computer proficiency and understanding of various types of Microsoft Office tools and related software
• Computer hardware and peripherals including; hard disks, optical drives, memory, power supply and other computer components; printers, scanners and mobile operating systems; various input devices such as barcode scanners and drawing devices; proper techniques for maintaining an inventory of hardware.
• Solve problems and think critically quickly
• Coordinate work involving both outside partners and internal customers
• Use tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality
• Be self-motivated to complete projects and learn new technologies
• Work well in teams as well as on your own without direct supervision
• Be personable, able to respond effectively to direction, and a willingness to learn from others
• Handle multiple tasks when faced with interruptions, and fluctuating workloads
• Work evenings and weekends as needed
• Rotate as an emergency contact, responding to system and service outages as needed
• Stoop, bend, climb ladders, pull wire, kneel, and crawl to make repairs, adjust, and/or install equipment
Preferred:
• A relevant bachelor's degree is preferred
• Experience with Mitel VoIP phone and voicemail programming, adds, and changes
• Experience with datacenter and teledata room facilities
• Experience with telecommunications systems, including voice switching and voicemail systems
• Five years working in a customer interfacing Help Desk/Service Desk role
