Job description

Local Sports Multimedia Journalist (MMJ)

WLKY is looking for a Sports Multimedia Journalist who can generate story ideas, and convey those stories in a compelling visual way on all platforms. We are seeking a self-motivated individual who understands the pace of a deadline-driven digital-first newsroom and is dedicated to impactful local sports coverage.  The ideal Sports Multimedia Journalist must be able to shoot, write and edit all content for social, digital and on-air. The right candidate loves telling compelling stories and has a positive team attitude. This person will focus on generating high school sports content, but also cover local college teams. This position is our primary sports photographer, will turn stories daily and fill-in sports anchor on the weekends and holidays. You must be flexible with your schedule, because certain sporting events throughout the year will require it to change.

Responsibilities

  • Gather information and video for reels, stories and live reports - this position is nights and weekends. 
  • Put together high quality stories (packages), vertical videos (reels) and vosots on a daily basis    
  • Coverage of breaking sports news and special events
  • Develop relationships with local high schools to generate compelling local sports stories. 
  • Develop relationships with local college and teams.  
  • Shoot live shots with TVU equipment. 
  • Must prioritize maintenance of all photographer gear and editing equipment, as well as maintain and care for station vehicles.
  • Willing to cover news when needed 
  • In-person attendance is required

Requirements

  • Professional or schooling experience in television news reporting, photography and editing
  • Creative writer and editor
  • Must deliver with authenticity to connect with viewers
  • Can provide samples of digital, on-air reporting and photography
  • Experience developing local contacts
  • Experience shooting and editing high-quality video
  • Can deal with the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast production
  • Related military experience will be considered
  • In-person attendance is required
