Job description

KABB/WOAI TV is seeking a creative and dedicated Broadcast Video Journalist/Photographer to join our dynamic newsroom team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates strong technical and storytelling skills, and consistently goes above and beyond to support their team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for visual storytelling, a collaborative spirit, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shoot and edit general assignment stories, including live shots and natural sound packages.
  • Integrate creative graphics and video layering effects to enhance storytelling.
  • Collaborate with reporters and producers to plan and execute compelling visual content.
  • Maintain and operate professional video and audio equipment, ensuring readiness and reliability.
  • Demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills, preparing footage and gear ahead of field assignments.
  • Support the team by working flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Maintain vehicle and equipment logs, ensuring timely submissions and upkeep.
  • Apply lighting and sound techniques to improve the quality of interviews and stand-ups.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment through effective communication and a proactive attitude.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in video journalism or related field.
  • Proficiency in non-linear editing systems (desktop and laptop).
  • Strong understanding of video/photo equipment and postproduction techniques.
  • Demonstrated creativity in graphics and visual effects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Physically able to lift and carry 30 lbs. or more regularly.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to changing schedules.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience blending graphics with natural sound and video for enhanced storytelling.
  • Initiative in brainstorming and seeking feedback to improve story quality.
  • Strong attention to detail in gear maintenance and organizational tasks.
