Job description

Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This is a position as an Electronic Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Operator) with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security Training Division, Fort Leonard Wood, MO
This is a term appointment not to exceed 2 years.

Duties

  • Performs complex Range Maintenance operations to include electronical, mechanical, soldering and equipment operations which includes designing and fabricating unique training targets and devices.
  • Works on equipment such as target training devices such as very high frequency transmitters and receivers, target interface unit, small arms noise-flash simulators.
  • Evaluates fault reports to determine if an item should be returned to repair section or if repair or adjustment can be made so testing can continue.
  • Resets all items after repairs are completed to ensure that they can pass the diagnostic test without error.

  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position may require employee to operate a motor vehicle.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Incumbent will be required to perform shift work, rotating shifts and days off, weekend/holiday work and overtime.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • IAW AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019R Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Drug testing designated position. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis, in accordance with (IAW) AR 600-85.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronics Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. - I have the ability to perform the common duties in maintaining electronics equipment of moderate complexity through troubleshooting, overhaul, and performing modifications on the equipment; Analyzing the schematic layout of circuits and makes preliminary visual inspections and operational tests to determine components causing malfunctions or invalid readings, and Making repairs by replacing damaged, missing, burnt or faulty items such as printed circuit cards, and transistors, diodes, and resistors using the latest techniques in micro-soldering. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Electronics Mechanic (MVO) is required to lift items weighing up to 70 pounds frequently, with occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds or more with assistance. The work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing and crawling for extended periods of time and is required to work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed indoors as well as outdoors in cold, hot and inclement weather. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns, toxic stings/bites from insects and snakes, and falls from 30-foot towers. Incumbent is also exposed to electrical shock, dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives and may also be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling batteries. Hearing protective devices, hard hats with face shield and other safety equipment and devices are issued or available for use.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 2 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term Appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term Appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

  • This position requires a 2-year trial period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
