Essential & Related Job Functions
Seeking students and adults with sports knowledge! The City of Onalaska is hiring Referees/Umpires & Officials. Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator or Manager, employees in this position are responsible for enforcing the rules of a game and oversight of any portion associated with specific sports games. Independently provides sport specific rule interpretation to players, coaches, and spectators during sporting events.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Administers the rules of a particular sport.
  • Promotes sportsmanship, cooperation, and teamwork.
  • Teaches participants the rules and regulations of the activity/sport.
  • Assists with the set-up and clean up of facilities.
  • Reports injuries, facility hazards, and program concerns to Supervisor.
  • Attends training and organizational meetings as needed or requested.
  • Maintainscommunicationwithprogramparticipants,staffandofficestaff.
  • Resolves conflicts between participants and between coaches.
  • Finds replacement if unable to fulfill game obligations.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor; calmly approach and solve problems under stressful circumstances; maintain and promote harmony in the sports arena; and to deal professionally and tactfully with coaches, participants, parents, and other staff members.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Compensation: Wage range for this seasonal, limited-term position is $10.00 to $40.00 per game (varies with game level). There are no benefits associated with limited-term positions.
