Work Location: Onsite in New York City - Various location across the five (5) boroughs.


Work Schedule: Varies. Ability to support up to 20+ hours per week depending on customer needs as well as possibility for support during non-business hours and/or weekends as needed.

LANGUAGES NEEDED: Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Brazilian Portuguese, Burmese, Cantonese, French, Fulani, Haitian Creole, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, Polish, Pulaar, Russian, Soninke, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Wolof, Yiddish.

Position Summary

LIS Solutions, a leader in Government language, intelligence, and security support services, is seeking interpreters to support The New York City Department of Social Services (DSS). Support will consist of on-site and video interpretation in a variety of languages across DSS locations across the five (5) New York City boroughs. Interpreters will assist DSS staff and contracted providers in conducting interviews, engaging in social service work, and meeting with current/prospective clients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Fluency in speaking and reading of target language and English.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in interpreting and /or translation.
  • Must reside within commutable distance to customer location sites across the five (5) New York City boroughs.
  • Must be willing to travel to customer site locations as schedule requires. Although there may be some remote tasks via online meetings, this is not a remote position.
  • Ability to support a minimum of 20 hours per week as needed during normal business hours M-F.
  • Note some locations require support 24/7 support 365 days per year. Must be willing to support 3rd shift and/or weekends if needed.
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency required.
  • Accurately interpret between clientele and DSS staff for meetings, hearings and other on-site events, as well as video teleconferencing.
  • Provide translation of client documents to include but not limited to; birth certificates, marriage certificates, passports, etc.
  • Must have reliable internet service and technical capability to provide video interpretation via online platforms i.e. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp when on-site support is not an option.
