Job description

Why Con-Tech? Work Hard, Get Covered, Build a Career.

Most entry-level factory jobs give you a paycheck and a high-deductible health plan that eats up half your earnings. We do things differently.

At Con-Tech Building Components, you aren’t just pressing buttons on an assembly line — you’re building the structural backbone of local homes and commercial buildings alongside skilled craftspeople. As a proud member of the Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council, we offer the kind of total compensation package that actually lets you take care of your dependents and plan for the future.

The Union & Benefits Package That Sets Us Apart:

  • Great Work-Life Balance: Reliable 1st shift hours (6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday) Overtime (When necessary 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM) Enjoy weekends and evenings off.
  • Real Union Pension: 5-year vested union pension plan so you’re earning toward retirement from day one.
  • Paid Time Off: 7 Paid Holidays + 2 PTO days to start.
  • Career & Pay Advancement: Start strong at $20.05/hour with an official 8-month performance evaluation review for direct raise potential.
  • Low Cost Union Setup: Low union dues with easy start up amount.
  • Modern Equipment: Train and work with updated, cutting-edge truss manufacturing technology and automated systems.

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need years of component manufacturing experience — we will train you on-site.

What you do need is a strong work ethic, a reliable mindset, and the pride of a builder. If you enjoy physical, hands-on work, like seeing a tangible product come together at the end of the day, and want to learn the trade from skilled union carpenters, this is the job for you.

Key Requirements:

  • Physical Stamina: This is a fast-paced industrial production role. You will be required to work on your feet, bending over, and kneeling for 8+ hours a day.
  • Reliability: Showing up on time every day for the 6:00 AM shift ready to work alongside your team.
  • Drug Screening: Ability to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug screening.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED is a plus, but not strictly required.
  • Preferred Skills (Bonus, but NOT required):
    • Ability to read a standard tape measure accurately.
    • Experience or working knowledge using basic hand tools and power tools.

What You’ll Be Doing Daily

As an Entry-Level Truss Assembler, you’ll work directly on our production line to build engineered wooden roof and floor trusses.

  • Assemble Components: Lay out lumber, set steel plates, and operate equipment to assemble custom trusses according to engineered structural drawings.
  • Learn the Trade: Work side-by-side with experienced carpenters who will teach you truss geometry, blueprint interpretation, and production techniques.
  • Follow Leadership: Take direction from shift supervisors and lead carpenters to hit daily production goals.
  • Prioritize Safety: Follow all company and union safety protocols to protect yourself, your crew, and the equipment.
  • Maintain the Shop: Keep your workspace clean, organized, and free of hazards.
