Company Description City Sing And Play is a community-focused music program offering weekly mixed-age classes multiple days a week in the heart of the Southwest Waterfront neighborhood in Washington, DC. The program serves young children and their families, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where music-making is shared across generations. City Sing And Play emphasizes playful, developmentally appropriate music experiences that support children’s social, emotional, and cognitive growth. Instructors are encouraged to build strong relationships with families and foster a sense of community through collaborative music activities.

Role Description A Music Together® teacher is a part-time , on-site role based in Washington, DC, focused on leading engaging mixed-age music classes for children and their caregivers. Teachers must be certified to teach the Music Together® curriculum via the multi-day virtual training program. Weekly responsibilities include planning and facilitating interactive music sessions using the Music Together® curriculum, leading classes with songs and movement activities, and fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all families. The teacher will welcome and support families, provide guidance on how caregivers can participate meaningfully, and maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment. Additional duties include preparing teaching materials, setting up and breaking down the classroom space, tracking attendance, communicating with families and program staff, and participating in ongoing training or staff meetings to maintain high-quality instruction.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Music Theory and general Music knowledge.
  • Demonstrated Music Performance skills, including confident singing and leading group musical activities.
  • Background in Music Education or early childhood education, with experience teaching young children preferred.
  • Ability to create an inclusive, supportive, and engaging environment for children and caregivers.
  • Clear, warm communication skills and comfort speaking and performing in front of groups.
  • Weekend availability and reliability for in-person teaching in Washington, DC.
  • Completion of, or willingness to complete, Music Together® teacher training and any required certifications.
