What is a weekend strawberry farm?

A weekend strawberry farm is a farm that opens to the public primarily on weekends, allowing visitors to pick their own strawberries, enjoy farm experiences, and sometimes purchase fresh produce or related products. These farms are often family-friendly destinations and may offer additional activities such as hayrides, farm tours, or small markets. Weekend strawberry farms are popular in regions where strawberries are grown seasonally and provide a fun way to connect with local agriculture. They typically operate during the peak strawberry picking season, which can vary by location.

Why Hammond, Louisiana?

Relocating is a big decision, so here's why so many people fall in love with life here:

A university town with real energy. Hammond is home to Southeastern Louisiana University, the third-largest university in the state, giving the town a youthful, walkable energy along with sports, concerts, and events at places like the historic Columbia Theatre, a 1920s-era venue still hosting shows today.

The Strawberry Capital of the World. Hammond has earned this nickname, and every April the region celebrates with the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival, one of Louisiana's largest outdoor events, complete with live music, parades, and every strawberry treat imaginable.

A genuine craft beverage scene. Hammond has become a destination for craft beer lovers, anchored by Gnarly Barley Brewing and Low Road Brewing Company, the latter even offering an outdoor play area for pets alongside its 30 taps and weekend food trucks.

Southern food worth the drive. From upscale spots like One Thirteen to cozy local favorites like Cate Street Seafood Station, the food scene here leans into fresh Gulf seafood and seasonal Ponchatoula strawberries in everything from salads to dessert.

Swamp adventures right outside town. Hammond sits just a few miles from the vast wetlands between Lake Maurepas and Lake Pontchartrain, where guided swamp tours offer up-close encounters with alligators and a true taste of Louisiana's wild side.

Outdoor recreation for every pace. Zemurray Park offers sports fields, walking trails, and playgrounds, while the Tammany Trace, a paved multi-use path stretching for miles, is perfect for biking, jogging, or a relaxed walk among birds and wildflowers. The nearby Tangipahoa River is a favorite for kayaking and canoeing.

Walkable, historic downtown charm. Downtown Hammond is filled with red-brick streets, restored historic buildings, boutique shops, art galleries, and a Saturday farmers market at Cate Square Park where you can pick up local honey and homemade jams.

A big-city getaway, minutes away. Hammond sits right at the crossroads of Interstate 10 and Interstate 55, putting New Orleans and Baton Rouge both within an easy drive for a bigger night out whenever you want one.

Community events all year long. From Hot August Night, a lively downtown block party with live music, wine tastings, and art walks, to the Hungarian Settlement Museum honoring the area's unique cultural history, there's always something local and worth exploring.
