Sterile processing technicians play a critical role in cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining surgical instruments, tasks that require manual skills and attention to detail. While AI and automation can assist with inventory management and tracking, the core responsibilities of sterile processing are unlikely to be fully replaced by AI due to the need for hands-on work and quality assurance. Technicians may need to adapt by learning to operate new automated tools and systems, but human oversight remains essential for patient safety and instrument integrity.
