Job description

Your Opportunity:

Are you passionate about caring for children needing specialized surgery and complex care? Do you bring pediatric or cardiology experience and want to be part of an expert subspecialty team? Can you build effective working relationships with stakeholders and collaborate with patients and families as partners in care? Alberta Health Services has an exciting opportunity at the Stollery Children's Hospital for a Nurse Practitioner - Pediatric Heart Transplant Focus. The Stollery is the primary pediatric acute care center in Edmonton and a Western Canadian referral hub for pediatric cardiac surgery and organ transplantation. Since opening in 2001, it has grown into a nationally recognized center for specialized pediatric care, staffed by a diverse team of child health professionals from around the world. The Pediatric Heart Transplant Program provides advanced care for children pre-and post-heart transplantation, including those with congenital heart defects, transplant-related complications, and those receiving therapies like LVADs or Berlin Heart as a bridge to transplant. Working independently within a multidisciplinary team, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) collaborates with physicians, residents, and fellows, contributing to medical care planning, performing assessments, managing care, and coordinating referrals. The NP plays a vital role in liaising with the Western Canadian Children's Heart Network and in providing local, ongoing care for transplanted patients. This position also involves contributing to policy and procedure development, supporting education, and engaging in clinical research. It's a unique opportunity to help grow innovative, family-centered programs and shape best practices in pediatric heart transplant care.
