Job Summary - About the Role
Deliver high quality recreation services for residents, visitors and the St. Charles community by adhering to the District's safety and administrative policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
This position is well suited for someone with a friendly and positive personality who is productive and shows initiative, is an effective written and oral communicator, is reliable and safety-minded.
Required: High School Graduate. At least two years of cleaning and janitorial experience. A strong background in skills to perform daily routine cleaning procedures in a public building. Experience with environmentally responsible cleaning methods and supplies a plus. Ability to set up and take down rental spaces in accordance with the needs of clients. A pleasant personality, which is conducive to good public relations with the general public and fellow employees. Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends as needed. Willingly work over and above required daily hours when necessary and be able to work a flexible schedule as required. Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid State of Illinois driver's license. Maintain DCFS Mandated Reporter and First Aid/CPR/AED certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
Essential Functions of the Position
Park District Cornerstones
  • Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District's safety and risk management program.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
  • Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
  • Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.

Responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks and Planning, the Assistant Superintendent of Outdoor Education, the HKDC Part-time Custodian shall complete all assigned duties to the best of their abilities, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St. Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position is part-time as defined within the Park District's Personnel Manual. Generally described, this position averages 18 hours per week on an annual basis. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:
  • Perform interior and exterior custodial functions necessary to maintain a clean and orderly appearance of the facility.
  • Communicate with the Assistant Superintendent of Outdoor Education to ensure regular removal of trash and recyclables.
  • Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and assist with order process.
  • Ensure all cleaning chemicals bear proper labels and documentation.
  • Keep supplies and equipment stored neatly and safely.
  • Stay alert to detect potential failures in all equipment, hardware and furnishings.
  • Make repairs as time and abilities permit, and will report all others to the immediate supervisor.
  • Assist Hickory Knolls Discovery Center staff in the completion of their duties.
  • Maintain orderly, professional and safe workspaces.
  • Have a working knowledge of and ability to communicate and enforce Park District procedures, rules and policies.
  • Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the Park District's Safety Program.
