Job description

The Quality Coordinator reports to the manager responsible for corporate Food Safety and Employee Safety. This position also has responsibility for continuously improving and managing the execution of all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) Quality, Food Safety and Employee Safety activities that occur within the Skidmore Warehouse and Blending/Repackaging Operations in West Chester, OH. This position requires constant oversight, training and validation of these programs. The Quality Coordinator is the quality advocate for the site, proving leadership for the quality, food safety and employee safety programs, specifically those involving operations.

Position Details:

  • Acts as the backup SQF Practitioner (SQFP) and ensures the integrity of the SQF System.
  • Maintains and ensures compliance of a Quality programs such as SQF, Organic, Kosher, and others.
  • Reviews documentation for on-boarding new products, suppliers, and processes.
  • Executes and validates functions related to Quality hold of products.
  • Performs documentation tasks and generates documents for manufacturing such as COA’s, specifications, claims, and other pertinent activities.
  • Fulfills document requests for internal customers
  • Assists product and process investigations by conducting trace, collating records, and assembling data and trends for review by SQF Team members.
  • Monitors customer quality complaints and ensures corrective and preventive actions are put in place.
  • Tracks and manages findings and CAPA related to GMP Walkthroughs to ensure adequate completion
  • Participates in site inspections (GMP walkthroughs), customer audits, 3rd party audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Tracks and manages training status and records for site personnel to meet SQF, regulatory, and customer requirements
  • Participate as a crisis management team member during crisis situations to ensure that appropriate procedures are implemented in order to maintain compliance with HACCP and food safety requirements (i.e., power outage, weather events, etc.).
  • Periodically performs audits of contract warehouses and suppliers as dictated by department needs.
  • Identifies and initiates action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety
  • and Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Identifies and reports any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients,
  • processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Informs Management of any Food Safety or Quality issues, or of any processes which become noncompliant with specified requirements.
  • In case of absence, the primary SQFP for Skidmore will fulfill the role of SQF practitioner and cover the remaining responsibilities of the Quality Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field and 2 to 5 years of experience in SQF-certified manufacturing facilities
  • Understanding of the principles of food safety as applied to warehouse operations and ingredient blending

Licenses/Credentials/Certifications

  • SQF Practitioner preferred
  • HACCP Certificate preferred
  • PCQI Certificate preferred
  • Internal audit training suggested
  • Food Fraud training suggested
  • Root Cause Analysis training suggested

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working Hours/Environment

  • Office hours are 40 per week Monday Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM; may require additional hours periodically, including evening and weekends depending on business needs.
  • Work typically performed in an indoor warehouse setting.
  • Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; dust, outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibrations.
  • Moderate to loud noise level.

Tools and Equipment Used

  • Personal computer, copier, fax/scanner, phone, and other typical office equipment.
  • Hand trucks, forklifts, hand held scanners and box cutters.

Travel

  • Minimal less than 5% of the time

Physical & Mental Demands

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and taste or smell.
