Nexstar Media Group is America's largest local television and media company, with stations and digital platforms serving communities across the country.

Gold and Blue Nation, the official television partner of West Virginia University Athletics and Learfield, is seeking an energetic, creative Sports Reporter/Co-Host to join our award-winning team covering the Mountaineers.

This is not a traditional local TV sports job.

You'll serve a passionate statewide fan base whilehelping create daily television, digital, streaming and social media content centered around one of the nation's most recognizable college athletic programs. Our content reaches millions of viewers throughout West Virginia and beyond through television broadcasts, streaming platforms, digital properties and regional sports programming.

Through our exclusive partnership with WVU Athletics and Learfield, we produce daily WVU sports content for five Nexstar stations throughout West Virginia and surrounding markets. Our specialty programming includes The WVU Coaches Show, Mountaineer GameDay, digital streaming shows, podcasts and exclusive features.

Our content reaches more than 3 million television homes throughout the region and is distributed across television, digital, streaming and social platforms. Gold and Blue Nation has been recognized multiple times as the Outstanding Sports Operation of the Virginias for its innovative coverage and audience growth.

Based in Morgantown, West Virginia, you'll provide coverage to some of the most passionate fans in college athletics while working alongside an experienced team dedicated to producing big-market content in a collaborative environment.

Position Summary

The Sports Reporter/Co-Host is a storyteller first.

This person will report, write, shoot, edit and appear on camera across multiple platforms whilehelping drive the daily content strategy of Gold and Blue Nation.

The ideal candidate is comfortable producing content for television, digital, streaming and social media audiences. They understand how to tell compelling stories, build relationships with athletes and coaches, identify topics that resonate with fans and create content that generates engagement.

Coverage will focus primarily on WVU football, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball and other Mountaineer athletic programs.

This position requires flexibility to work nights, weekends and travel as needed to cover games, practices, press conferences and special events.

Position Responsibilities

  • Report daily on WVU Athletics and related sports news
  • Produce compelling television reports, live shots and feature stories
  • Co-host specialty programming, including coaches shows, digital streams, podcasts and other sports productions
  • Appear live from WVU sporting events, practices and news conferences
  • Create original content that stands out from competitors
  • Write, shoot and edit stories for television, digital and social platforms
  • Publish digital articles and website content on a regular basis
  • Generate content ideas that drive audience growth and engagement
  • Build and maintain relationships with coaches, athletes, university officials and sports information personnel
  • Assist with production of Mountaineer GameDay and other specialty programming
  • Maintain an active social media presence and use social platforms as reporting tools
  • Capture photos and video for digital and broadcast use
  • Edit content using Adobe Creative Cloud software
  • Collaborate with producers, photographers and management to execute content strategy
  • Participate in promotional appearances and station events as assigned
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Sports Media or related field preferred
  • Previous sports reporting, anchoring or multimedia journalism experience preferred
  • Strong on-camera presence and storytelling ability
  • Excellent writing, interviewing and communication skills
  • Ability to develop relationships and cultivate sources
  • Knowledge of college athletics and college football preferred
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and react quickly to breaking news
  • Strong understanding of digital journalism and social media platforms
  • Experience shooting and editing video
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud products, including Premiere Pro
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Schedule flexibility, including nights, weekends and holidays
