Job description

Wellness at Lenbrook is rooted in the ability to understand, accept, and engage life as purposeful and meaningful. Spiritual wellness is a vital dimension of whole-person care, especially within a senior living community where residents are navigating transitions related to aging, health, loss, and identity.
The Senior Chaplain provides leadership for the Spiritual Wellness program and ensures that the spiritual needs of residents, families, and associates are compassionately and consistently supported.
This role:
  • Maintains a person-centered approach to spiritual care and programming
  • Cultivates a chaplaincy team grounded in presence, clinical awareness, and compassion
  • Helps foster a community that honors the dignity, story, and contributions of every individual

Essential functions of the job:
1) Spiritual Care & Spiritual Presence
  • Provides consistent and visible pastoral presence throughout the Lenbrook community
  • Offers emotional and spiritual support to residents, families, and associates, particularly during times of crisis, decline, and the end-of-life
  • Responds in real time to resident deaths, providing immediate spiritual care to bereaved family members

2) Worship, Devotionals & Spiritual Life
  • Plans and leads memorial and graveside services as needed
  • Preaches for the Lenbrook Sunday Worship Service (typically once or twice per month)
  • Serves as Worship Leader for Sunday services as needed
  • Plans and implements devotionals in Healthcare
  • Supports and coordinates access to sacramental and faith-specific care, including:
    • Collaboration with Catholic priests and/or deacons to ensure resident access to Mass or Communion via Catholic programming on campus.
    • Collaboration with Jewish rabbis and/or cantors to ensure support and implementation of Jewish programming on campus.

3) Program Coordination & Communication
  • Completes Event Set-Up Forms and Room Set-Up Diagrams for chaplaincy programming
  • Ensures timely communication of resident deaths through approved platforms (Lenbrook All, K4 Connect, Nixplay)
  • Coordinates and supports spiritual wellness-related events and services across the community

4) Leadership & Administration
  • Provides supervision to Staff Chaplain(s)
  • Completes administrative responsibilities, including:
  • Weekly check requests
  • Quarterly staff evaluations
  • Attends Leadership Meetings
  • Works collaboratively with the chaplaincy team to ensure seamless communication and continuity of care

Required
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Ordination or commissioning for pastoral care/chaplaincy.
  • Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) through ACPE, NACC, or CAPPE
  • Minimum of one (1) year (2,000 hours) of full-time chaplaincy experience following CPE completion
  • Ecclesiastical endorsement from a recognized faith group
  • Board Certification through the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) or equivalent, or Board Certification eligible with commitment to obtain certification

  • Requires flexibility, including occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call responsibilities
