Job description

Job Title: Certified Phlebotomist
Job Type: Full Time
Location: Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Houston, TX
Schedule: Various shifts may be available, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Duties:
  • Verify patient identity before collecting specimens.
  • Perform blood draws for inpatient and outpatient patients.
  • Collect, label, and process specimens accurately.
  • Assist with urine collections, blood cultures, and basic specimen processing.
  • Follow laboratory procedures, safety rules, and infection-control standards.
  • Maintain patient privacy and provide professional customer service.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, nurses, and laboratory staff.
Qualifications:
  • Current Phlebotomy Certification.
  • At least 2 years of phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Current BLS certification preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Experience with difficult blood draws is a plus.
  • Must be able to pass VA background screening and complete required VA onboarding/training.
  • Reliable, professional, and comfortable working in a healthcare setting.
