Job description

ICA is currently seeking a Spanish language instructor. Preferably, the candidate should have at least three years of experience teaching the Frenchย language in a proficiency-oriented environment to adult students. This is a full-time, hourly positionย 40 hours per week at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center (formerly FSI) in Arlington, VA.

Job Details:

Period of Performance: Immediate, to be determined

Schedule: 7:30-4:15 pmย 40 hours per weekย 

Hourly rate: $51.00 (for LI2 position)

Job Requirements:

  • Plan and conduct group and one-on-one foreign language classes using a variety of teaching techniques, aimed at the development of speaking, reading, and listening skills.
  • Use provided training materials and work collaboratively with other instructors on all program-related matters.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to the students' individual learning styles and needs.
  • Conduct informal or formal progress evaluations and/or administer weekly quizzes and assessments to evaluate student progress.
  • Integrate culture and other topics relevant to US Foreign Service Officers into teaching.
  • Attend all section and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Incorporate the use of instructional technology into the program.
  • Perform other teaching and administrative duties, as needed, under the guidance of the Training Manager(s) and Supervisor(s).

Required Qualifications:

  • Educated native or near-native speaker of the Spanishย language.
  • BA/BS, MA/MS, or PhD, or foreign equivalent degree(s) in any field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching adult students the Frenchย language in a group setting.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching foreign language using proficiency-based or task-based curricula.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience administering proficiency-based assessments (i.e., FSI test, DLPT, ACTFL OPI, etc.).
  • A minimum English proficiency level of a 2/2 on the ILR proficiency scale.
  • Must possess the cultural background and knowledge specific to the country where the Spanishย language is spoken.
