Part time Adult Ed teaching position. Current opening in Columbus at McDowell Education Center, Spanish Welding English Support, through C4 facilities at Columbus North High School
Position Purpose
McDowell Adult Education is seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) English Instructor to support adult learners enrolled in a Spanish-language welding course. This instructor will teach the English language and vocabulary necessary for students to understand welding safety, tools, blueprints, and job site communication. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping English Language Learners (ELLs) gain language skills that directly connect to their career training and success.
Job Requirements
  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse group of learners.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Responsible for lesson planning and implementation.
  • Provide high learning expectations and instructional intensity.
  • Be able to provide differentiated learning experiences for students at
    multiple academic levels and varied levels of English proficiency.
  • Provide English instruction that aligns with the vocabulary and concepts taught in the welding course
  • Collaborate with the welding instructor to identify key technical language and classroom support needs
  • Support learners in understanding and using English related to welding, safety, tools, measurements, and workplace communication
  • Use contextualized instruction strategies to integrate English and career content
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment
  • Monitor and assess student progress in English language acquisition
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and progress
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish and ensure that the student understands the content

Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (oral and written fluency)
  • Experience teaching English to adult learners
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Pass a Criminal History Background Check
  • Experience working in adult education or technical training environments Preferred
  • Experience supporting career/technical education Preferred
  • Teaching license, Bachelor's degree Preferred

Salary and Benefits: Hourly, $41.00 per hour, No benefits available.
An additional $1 per hour will be paid from referendum funds
