Is it true that AI will replace software engineers?

AI is unlikely to fully replace software engineers, especially those working as weekend developers, because human creativity, problem-solving, and understanding of complex systems remain essential. AI tools can assist with coding and automation, but software development still requires critical thinking, design, and oversight that humans provide. Continuous learning and adapting to new technologies are important for software engineers to stay relevant in an evolving field.

What engineers make $500,000?

Highly experienced software engineers, especially those in specialized fields like machine learning, AI, or cybersecurity, can earn $500,000 or more annually. These roles often require advanced skills, certifications, and leadership responsibilities, and may include bonuses or stock options that significantly increase total compensation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Software Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Software Developer, you need strong programming skills in relevant languages (such as Python, Java, or JavaScript), software development experience, and often at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, popular frameworks, and agile project management tools is typically expected. Excellent time management, self-motivation, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for balancing weekend work and collaborating with remote or distributed teams. These skills ensure the developer can efficiently produce high-quality code, meet deadlines, and contribute positively to project goals even outside traditional work hours.

What are the typical expectations and communication practices for a Weekend Software Developer working with a distributed team?

Weekend Software Developers often collaborate with teams that operate across various time zones and schedules. Clear, asynchronous communication is crucial, as you may need to provide detailed status updates, document your progress, and flag any blockers for your weekday colleagues. Many teams use tools like Slack, Jira, or Trello to facilitate handovers and ensure seamless project continuity. You can expect your responsibilities to focus on feature development, bug fixes, or code reviews, with an emphasis on self-management and proactive reporting. Building strong written communication skills will help you succeed and integrate smoothly with the broader development team.

Can you make $500,000 as a software engineer?

Earning $500,000 as a software engineer is possible but typically requires senior-level experience, specialized skills, working at large tech companies, or in high-paying regions. Most software engineers earn between $70,000 and $150,000 annually, with higher salaries often linked to leadership roles, stock options, or consulting work.

What are Weekend Software Developers?

They may work part-time, on contract, or as freelancers, often supporting companies that require continuous development or maintenance outside of standard business hours. These roles are ideal for individuals seeking flexible work schedules or supplemental income. Weekend Software Developers typically possess the same technical skills as full-time developers, including programming, problem-solving, and collaboration abilities.

Job description

About Sunbound

Sunbound is Senior Living's Revenue Operating System.

We build AI-powered technology for assisted living and skilled nursing operators, giving them one connected platform to run their entire revenue operation. Admissions, private payments, Medicare and Medicaid claims, working capital. Everything between a resident moving in and the cash hitting the bank. Revenue on autopilot.

Senior living operators got into this business to care for people. But fragmented systems, manual follow-up, and endless admin work pull them in the wrong direction.

We fix that. Sunbound replaces manual revenue work with intelligent automation so operators get back to what matters: care.

The results:

  • $1B+ in payments processed annually
  • Operators across 45 states
  • 40,000+ family interactions supported every year
  • 99%+ net collection rates
  • 95%+ on-time payments
  • 40+ hours reclaimed per community per month
  • 96%+ first-pass claims acceptance

Trusted by Sinceri, Bickford, Maplewood, Spring Oak, Compass, and Omega. Backed by world-class investors.

About the Role

We're looking for a Frontend Software Engineer to join our team and help us grow our product. This is an early engineering role and will carry a lot of opportunities to work closely with the CTO and shape company direction and culture.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in building our design system
  • Collaborate cross-functionality on product ideation and direction
  • Define solutions to new problems and own the related projects
  • Propose, demonstrate, and implement improvements to our tooling stack
  • Help build an amazing, world-class product
Skills and Qualifications
  • BA or BS (or Master's) in Computer Science or related technical discipline
  • 3-6 years of experience in software development
  • Experience at fintech companies a major plus
  • Experience building software solutions incorporating disparate aspects of complex business processes
  • Proficiency in frontend web development
  • Proficiency with React
  • Proficiency with Typescript
  • Clear communication verbally and in writing with non-technical stakeholders
  • Preferred candidates based in New York or San Francisco
  • On-site 3 days a week in our office
Our Values

These aren't words on a wall. They're how we hire, give feedback, and make decisions every day.

  • Resilience: We don't give up. If there's a will, there's a way.
  • Customer Care: We respond with empathy and deeply care about solving our customers' problems.
  • Teamwork: We trust, encourage, and hold each other accountable to be our best every day.
  • Ambition: We know we can achieve great things and don't lose sight of the bigger picture.
  • Commitment: We do what we say and uphold our promises: to each other, our customers, and our investors.
  • Attention to Detail: How we do the small things is how we do the big things. Details make the difference.
Why Sunbound

If you're looking for a place where your work actually moves the needle, you found it.

We move fast, hold a high bar, and care deeply about doing things right. If that's how you're wired, you'll love it here. You'll be surrounded by people who are sharp, humble, and genuinely energized by the mission. A team that shows up for each other, celebrates wins loudly, and has real conversations early.

The impact is real too. Every feature shipped, every process improved, every customer supported has a direct effect on seniors and the families navigating one of the hardest transitions of their lives. That's not a marketing line. It's why people choose to stay.

And the benefits match the ambition:

  • Competitive comp with equity so you own a piece of what you're building
  • 90% of your medical premium covered
  • Fully paid parental leave
  • Unlimited PTO - and we actively encourage you to use it. Well-rested people do better work, make better decisions, and stay longer. Taking care of yourself isn't a perk here, it's part of the job
  • An AI-native environment where we trust you to do your best work

We're building something special here. Come be part of it.
