Job Title: Powersports Mechanic (UTV, Slingshot & Snowmobile Fleet) (3 locations in the Northern Black Hills)

Location: Spearfish Canyon Adventures Spearfish Canyon, SD // Black Hills UTV Rentals, Lead, SD // Deadwood UTV & Snowmobile Outfitters, Deadwood, SD.

Position Overview

Spearfish Canyon Adventures is seeking a dependable and skilled Powersports Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of UTVs, Polaris Slingshots, and snowmobiles. This role is critical to ensuring our equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for daily guest use.
This position requires a strong mechanical mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced rental environment. The selected candidate will be required to complete certification through Polaris University, which will be provided and completed during employment.
Key Responsibilities

Fleet Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform routine maintenance on UTVs, Slingshots, and snowmobiles (oil changes, belts, brakes, inspections)
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues quickly and accurately
  • Complete repairs in a timely manner to minimize equipment downtime
  • Conduct pre- and post-rental inspections to ensure safety and performance
  • Maintain detailed service records for all units
Operational Support

  • Work closely with Adventure Techs to prioritize repairs and keep fleet availability high
  • Assist in preparing machines for daily rentals
  • Respond to urgent repair needs during peak operating hours
  • Occasionally assist with field recoveries or troubleshooting when needed
Shop & Facility Management

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Track parts, supplies, and inventory; communicate ordering needs
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and secured
  • Follow all safety standards and company procedures
Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude (powersports, automotive, or small engine experience preferred)
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical systems
  • Willingness to complete Polaris certification training within a defined timeframe
  • Valid drivers license with clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding work
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
Preferred Experience (Not Required)

  • Experience working on Polaris vehicles or similar powersports equipment
  • Small engine repair, ATV/UTV, snowmobile, or motorcycle background
  • Prior experience in a rental or high-volume service environment
Work Environment

  • Combination of indoor shop work and outdoor conditions
  • Fast-paced during peak tourism seasons
  • Weekend and holiday availability may be required
