Converting Operator
Sofidel is a global leader in the production of tissue paper for domestic and hygienic use. With a steadfast commitment to sustainability, innovation, and safety, we deliver high-quality products to households across the United States.
Sofidel Tissue is seeking a dedicated Converting Operator to join our team. This role is responsible for operating and monitoring Bathroom Tissue or Household Towel machines in a continuous production environment. The Converting Operator plays a critical role in ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency while contributing to the success of our production operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate all machines and equipment within the Converting Department, including Folded, Bathroom, and Towels (e.g., rewinders, wrapping, packing, overhead crane).
  • Manage yield and waste, ensuring proper disposal and maintenance of raw materials.
  • Prepare and load materials for machine operations and changeovers.
  • Replace and maintain equipment parts such as band spent cores, performance blades, and log saw pushers.
  • Operate and monitor machines using computer systems and controls, addressing jams or misfeeds as needed.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical defects.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Team for complex mechanical issues.
  • Monitor and ensure the operational efficiency of systems such as core handler, brake system, drive system, and embosser.
  • Conduct product quality checks throughout the shift.
  • Safely transfer and move finished products using manual methods or cranes.
  • Uphold a high standard of safety, adhering to workplace policies such as lockout/tagout procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Participate in safety incident investigations and assist in identifying root causes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment by removing debris and excess materials.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fire extinguisher locations, eye wash stations, and proper hand tool usage.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in paper manufacturing or an industrial environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with enterprise work order systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of PARCView/PI for machine operators preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Work in a physically demanding environment with exposure to temperature extremes, loud noise, compressed air, steam, lubrication oil, dust, and hydraulic fluid.
  • Perform manual labor, including standing, bending, walking, and climbing around machinery for an entire 12-hour shift.
  • Use tools safely and effectively, including knives, pneumatic hoses, air guns, and hoists.
  • Lift up to 40 lbs frequently and heavier weights with team assistance or crane support.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (e.g., eye and ear protection, steel-toe shoes).
  • Work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with overtime as needed.
