How much do weekend sitter jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 30, 2026, the average hourly pay for weekend sitter in the United States is $16.70, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.90 and $18.03 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are weekend sitters?

Weekend sitters are caregivers who look after children, pets, or even homes during the weekends when regular caregivers or parents may be unavailable. Their duties typically include supervising children, preparing meals, organizing activities, and ensuring safety. Weekend sitters may work in private homes or for agencies, and their schedules often include evenings and overnight stays depending on the family's needs. Many families hire weekend sitters for date nights, special events, or to provide parents with a break. Reliable communication, trustworthiness, and experience with children or pets are important qualities for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Sitter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Sitter, you need experience in childcare, basic first aid knowledge, and, often, a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with safety protocols and tools such as baby monitors, emergency contact systems, and sometimes CPR certification is beneficial. Strong communication, patience, and reliability are essential soft skills for building trust with both children and parents. These skills ensure a safe, nurturing environment and provide peace of mind to families relying on your care during weekends.

Is $25 an hour good for babysitting?

For a weekend sitter, $25 an hour is generally considered above average in many areas, reflecting the demand for flexible, short-term childcare. Rates can vary based on location, experience, and responsibilities, but this rate often indicates a higher-than-average pay for babysitting jobs. Experience, certifications, and the number of children cared for can influence whether this rate is competitive.

What is the difference between Weekend Sitter vs Babysitter?

AspectWeekend SitterBabysitter
CredentialsMay require CPR/First Aid certificationOften requires CPR/First Aid certification
Work EnvironmentPrimarily weekend and evening hours, in private homesFlexible hours, including days, evenings, and weekends
Employer & Industry UsageFamilies seeking occasional weekend careParents needing regular or occasional child supervision
Search & Comparison IntentPeople looking for weekend-specific child carePeople seeking general child care services

Weekend Sitter and Babysitter roles often overlap, especially in credentials like CPR certification. However, Weekend Sitters typically focus on providing care during weekends and evenings, often for occasional or short-term needs. Babysitters may work more flexibly throughout the week and for regular schedules. Both roles are essential for parents needing reliable child supervision outside standard hours.

What are the typical responsibilities of a Weekend Sitter, and how do they differ from weekday childcare roles?

A Weekend Sitter is primarily responsible for supervising children during weekends, which often involves more flexible and activity-based care compared to weekday roles. Responsibilities may include organizing creative activities, preparing meals, assisting with bedtime routines, and ensuring a safe, engaging environment while parents are away or occupied. Weekend Sitters may also be asked to supervise playdates, accompany children to extracurricular events, or provide light housekeeping related to the children’s needs. Unlike weekday caregivers, weekend sitters often adapt to varying schedules and may work longer or more irregular hours, requiring adaptability and strong communication with families.

What are things a sitter should not do?

A weekend sitter should not engage in unsafe activities, discipline children physically, or share confidential information about the family. They should avoid using devices excessively, neglecting the child's needs, or taking on tasks outside their responsibilities without permission. Maintaining professionalism and safety is essential in this role.

Can I get paid to watch my own child?

A weekend sitter role typically involves caring for children other than your own, so you generally cannot get paid to watch your own child as part of a formal babysitting or nanny job. However, informal arrangements with family or friends may involve payment, but these are not considered professional employment. Certifications like CPR or first aid can enhance credibility in paid caregiving roles, but they do not change the basic fact that caring for your own child is not a paid job.

Is $30 an hour a lot for babysitting?

For a weekend sitter, $30 an hour is considered above average in many areas, where typical rates range from $15 to $25 per hour. Experienced babysitters with special skills or certifications may charge higher rates, especially for evening or weekend shifts. Factors such as location, responsibilities, and the number of children can influence the appropriate rate.

Job description

Part-Time Dog Walker & Pet Sitter

Cave Creek  |  Anthem  |  North Phoenix

Bonded  |  Insured  |  Double Certified  |  Team-Based Care

We are specifically looking for someone with REAL schedule flexibility,

not someone trying to squeeze pet care around an already packed life.

Pawfect Pet Sitter is actively growing in Anthem, and we’re looking for a reliable pet lover who already lives in or very close to the area. If you love caring for fur babies, enjoy walks and check-ins, and want flexible part-time work with an established local pet care company, we’d love to hear from you. This opening is specifically for Anthem area coverage, so applicants should live within about 5–10 miles of Anthem and have reliable transportation.

We are growing our Pet Care Team and hiring a dependable, confident, and professional dog walker and pet sitter to join us.

This is not a casual gig. This is real work with real expectations, real training, and real support from a company that has your back. If you take responsibility seriously and want flexible part-time work you can count on, keep reading.

What You Will Do
  • Provide daily check-ins, dog walks, and pet sitting visits in clients’ homes
  • Care for pups of all sizes, kitties, and other household pets following detailed care instructions
  • Send visit summaries with photos and notes to clients after every visit
  • Communicate quickly and clearly with the office team and your assigned clients
  • Use scheduling apps, visit tracking tools, and your smartphone for all communication and logging
  • Represent Pawfect Pet Sitter professionally in every client’s home
  • Complete shadow training with an experienced team member before going solo
  • Earn Pet CPR Certification within your first 3 months (provided by us)
Availability Required

You must be available for at least 2 of the following 3 daily time blocks:

Morning Block

7:00 AM – 9:00 AM

Midday Block

11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Evening Block

4:00 PM – 7:00 PM

You must also be willing to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Our fur babies need care every day, and our clients depend on us to be there when it matters most. This is not a Monday-through-Friday convenience job.

Requirements
  • Live within 10 miles of Anthem, or the surrounding service area
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Have a smartphone with unlimited data
  • Be confident handling large dogs, small dogs, and cats
  • Be comfortable using scheduling apps, texting clients, uploading visit photos, and learning new tools quickly
  • Be dependable, responsive, and able to work independently in clients’ homes
  • Pass a background check
Who Does Well in This Role

Retirees, semi-retired professionals, empty nesters, and adults with truly flexible schedules tend to thrive on this team. Recent graduates can be a great fit, but only if your schedule is genuinely open and stable.

The people who do well here are calm, capable, local, quick to respond, and available when pet care actually happens. They like structure, independence, and knowing exactly what is expected. They do not need to be chased.

This Role Is Not a Fit If
  • You are looking for occasional side work only
  • You have limited daytime availability or cannot work weekends and holidays
  • You are slow to respond to messages
  • You are uncomfortable with large dogs or phone-based systems
  • You are trying to squeeze pet care around an already packed schedule
What We Offer
  • Paid training and shadow visits with an experienced team member before you go solo
  • Pet CPR Certification provided at no cost
  • A backup team so you are never left hanging on coverage
  • Clear systems, tools, and support so you always know what to do
  • Growth path from Pet Sitter Pro to Area Manager for those who want to advance
  • Workers’ compensation coverage
  • A team that genuinely cares about doing great work for pets and their families

We never cancel. We always show up. That starts with who we hire.

If that sounds like you, we want to hear from you.
