Job description

Mispro fosters and ensures the responsible and humane use of in vivo research models within our network of AAALAC-accredited contract vivariums (primarily rodent). The Site Operations Site Supervisor will provide tactical performance oversight to multiple Mispro Contract Vivaria (CVOs) ensuring high-caliber execution of animal welfare/compliance programs and assure Mispro’s full compliance with federal, state, local and accrediting regulations while actively advancing diversified novel preclinical research by an expansive client base. This position will report directly to the Site Operations Regional Manager.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


This local leadership position is responsible for direct animal care/operations/staff performance of at least two (2) Mispro vivaria and associated insourcings in our global, AAALAC-accredited, in vivo research support program. Mispro is a service-based organization supporting multiple clients performing preclinical in vivo research studies.


Vivarium Operations and Animal Care

  • Ensure animal care standards, adherence to regulatory compliance standards and consistency with facility operations for multiple Mispro sites.
  • Recognize and respond to standard rodent clinical conditions.
  • Ensure operational familiarity of site-specific BMS systems, emergency response processes and contacts.
  • Ensure all required Vivarium operations documentation is maintained in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Implement departmental SOPs and policies.
  • Participate in daily animal care/facility responsibilities as necessary.


Staff Management and Site Culture

  • Performance oversight of a team of Animal Care Technicians. Line management oversight of related animal care functions to include veterinary.
  • Prepare and coach staff on knowledge and skills needed to maintain a high-quality animal care program and professional development, to include AALAS certifications.
  • Promote an energizing, recognizing and inclusive team culture at Site level. Partner with other Site Supervisors to develop a regional team culture.
  • Host an in-house development committee to better Mispro service offerings and staff education.



Client Interaction and Partnership

  • Collaborate with the in vivo research community to proactively ensure optimal and consistent vivarium service support and animal care.
  • Maintain on-going, proactive communications with key/incoming clients.
  • Respond and triage client-specific requests and miscues.
  • Orientation and onboarding of new clients.
  • Participate/coordinate quarterly meetings and client events.


Cross-functional Partnership

  • Collaborate w/ Quality Assurance (Compliance)/IACUC Chair to ensure adherence with institutional (IACUC, QA), governmental and accrediting agency protocols, policies & guidelines as well as corporate emergency/disaster preparedness program management by clients and staff.
  • Provide census numbers and animal-usage related metrics.
  • Maintain AAALAC accreditation.
  • Partner & collaborate w/ Technical Operations leadership to ensure clinical care, pathogen surveillance and consistent animal care.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing in showcasing facility abilities, onboarding new clients, responding to client needs/concerns and assessing business/service opportunities; represent Mispro Site Operations at client/investor events.
  • Ensure senior management visibility to both operational opportunities & threats/risks to the consistent implementation of the corporate mission.


Lead New Facility Commissioning and Operational Startup


  • Partner with Site Development, Facilities, Quality, and Business Operations teams to commission, qualify, and operationalize new vivarium facilities.
  • Establish the operational programs, systems, processes, and staffing required to support compliant, efficient, and scalable contract research operations.
  • Serve as the operational lead throughout facility startup, ensuring readiness for regulatory inspections, client visits and audits, and animal receipt.



Financial/Budgetary

  • Management of site budgetary reporting, including client charge backs, per diems, service applications
  • Maintain fiscal awareness for regional spend, including staff, consumables, maintenance, client support
  • Explore/pursue cost-wise initiatives
  • Perform ROI assessments on client offerings/service requests (new and current)


Additional

  • Able to lift 50 lbs, move heavy objects, work from a standing position for prolonged time periods and perform repetitive motion tasks.
  • Must be available to support weekend, holiday, emergency, and after-hour operational responsibilities.
  • Assisting in supporting the program through other requested duties as necessary.

QUALIFYING CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Extensive working knowledge of operating practices for in vivo environments and models with a preclinical focus
  • Working knowledge of regulatory standards (local, industry, federal, AAALAC, Mispro) governing the care and use of animals in research.
    • Familiarity with Cambridge Public Health/Cambridge Commissioner desired.
  • Ability to make appropriate, sustainable decisions regarding daily facility operations and to address unusual situations that arise within the animal research facilities
  • Ability to assess and respond to clients' needs, identify prospective challenges, deescalate sensitive/emotional situations and reach understanding among varied stakeholders. Effectively collaborate with clients with diversified backgrounds, personalities and beliefs.
  • Strong and effective communication (verbal, written, presentation), interpersonal (transparency, professionalism, integrity, trust, EQ) and organizational skills (prioritizing, multitasking, time management, scheduling).
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite/Office, to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams.
  • Local accessibility w/ regular on-site presence at each location.
  • Able to travel nationally as needed.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of five (5) years vivarium operations (husbandry or related); Two (2) year’s team or site leadership (inclusive)
  • 2-year Veterinary Technology/Animal Science, 4-year Science degree (preferred) and/or equivalent required. Advanced degrees merited.
  • LAT required, LATg preferred. ILAM, CMAR desirable. All encouraged upon employment.
  • History of involvement with successful AAALAC accreditations
  • Expertise with Pharma, Biotech, Start-up/’stealth’, academic in vivo research environments
  • Familiarity with common preclinical experimental techniques/disease models
