Weekend Sign Designer information

What is a weekend sign designer?

A Weekend Sign Designer is a graphic design professional who creates signs, banners, and other visual displays specifically during weekends. Their work often includes designing promotional materials for businesses, events, or retail stores that need new signage or updates over the weekend. Weekend Sign Designers use software like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop to create eye-catching layouts and may also be involved in printing or preparing the signs for installation. This role is ideal for those who prefer weekend work hours or are looking to supplement their income with part-time design work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend sign designer?

To thrive as a Weekend Sign Designer, you need a solid understanding of graphic design principles, typography, color theory, and experience with design software such as Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop. Familiarity with digital printing systems, vinyl cutting machines, and layout tools is commonly required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective time management are essential soft skills for producing attractive and accurate signage under tight deadlines. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality, visually appealing signs that meet client specifications and project timelines.

What are some common challenges faced by weekend sign designers, and how can they be managed?

Weekend Sign Designers often work with tight deadlines and may need to handle multiple projects simultaneously, especially during peak promotional periods. Balancing creativity with client guidelines or branding requirements is another frequent challenge. Effective time management, clear communication with clients or supervisors, and staying organized are essential for managing these demands. Collaborating closely with printing teams and being adaptable to last-minute changes can also help ensure successful project completion.

Job description

Description:

Job Title: Production Designer

Reports To: Senior Designer

About Cross Street:

Cross Street is a Chicago-based real estate services firm built on a strong foundation of property operations and client service. We bring together institutional-level experience with an entrepreneurial mindset to support owners and investors across residential portfolios. From property management to brokerage and advisory, our team takes a hands-on, accountable approach focused on long-term value for both our clients and the residents who call these communities home.

Job Overview:

The Production Designer reports to the Senior Designer and is responsible for owning the day-to-day execution that keeps Cross Street's brand running across every market: individual property website builds, milestone and a-la-carte email campaigns, rinse-and-repeat print collateral and signage, and ongoing support for the Cross Street corporate website and new-business materials. It's a strong fit for a designer who's meticulous about execution, comfortable working inside an established brand system across a range of tools, and energized by high-volume, deadline-driven production work.

Primary Responsibilities:

Property Websites & Digital Set-Up:

  • Build and launch individual property websites in Wix, including domain set-up and Google Tag Manager (GTM) implementation.
  • Set up and maintain scheduling tools (Zoho Bookings) and contact forms (Zoho Forms) for each property site.
  • Manage the full slate of tasks tied to a property website launch: scheduler, forms, domain, GTM, and design from kickoff through go-live.
  • Handle ongoing updates and maintenance for live property websites as needs change.

Email Marketing:

  • Design and build milestone email campaigns (e.g., pre-leasing, move-in, renewal), working ahead of schedule where possible.
    • Set up associated forms for specific campaigns, including lead-scoring and broker-specific scheduler forms.
  • Create a-la-carte emails generated from inbound form submissions and other one-off requests.

Flyers & Print Collateral:

  • Produce rinse-and-repeat print collateral: proofs, banners, listing flyers, and business cards.
  • Create floorplan printouts, Residential Experiences printable templates, and resident handbooks/move-in guides.
  • Own property and leasing signage production.

Cross Street Corporate:

  • Maintain the Cross Street brand style guide and the live website Figma file.
  • Design new website pages in Figma, then build and launch them in Elementor.
  • Maintain and update the RFP template.
  • Support new-business RFP decks: editing content and producing supporting assets

Production & Quality Control:

  • Prepare and proof press-ready files (bleed, crop marks, color mode, resolution) and coordinate directly with printers and sign vendors on quotes, timelines, and quality.
  • Maintain and expand a library of templates and reusable assets so recurring materials and campaigns can be turned around quickly and consistently.
  • Apply and enforce brand guidelines across all deliverables, flagging inconsistencies before materials go out.
  • Manage a production queue across concurrent requests from leasing, sales, developer-services, and broker teams,      prioritizing by deadline.
  • Proof all outgoing materials for accuracy, pricing, unit specs, addresses, contact information, before publishing or printing.
  • Partner with the Senior Designer on quality control and creative direction, escalating anything that falls outside established brand standards.

Qualifications:

· 2–4 years of experience in graphic design or production design, ideally in-house at a real estate, property marketing, or agency environment.

· Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Canva and Figma.

· Experience building and maintaining websites in Wix and/or WordPress/Elementor, including basic domain set-up and Google Tag Manager implementation.

· Experience with email platforms and campaign build-out (Mailchimp, Klaviyo, or similar).

· Solid grasp of print production fundamentals: bleed, CMYK vs. RGB, file prep for offset and digital printing, paper and material specs.

· Excellent organization and time management; able to juggle multiple concurrent projects and deadlines without dropping quality.

· High attention to detail; this role is measured on accuracy and consistency, not on originating new creative concepts.

· Comfortable executing within an established brand system and taking direction from a Senior Designer.

Nice to Have:

· Familiarity with Zoho Bookings, Zoho Forms, or similar scheduling and form tools.

· Experience in real estate, property management, or multifamily marketing.

· Basic HTML/CSS knowledge for email and web troubleshooting.

· Light photo retouching or photography skills.

Availability and Work Hours:

· Must be available to handle requests as needed outside of normal business hours

· Ability to access emails and call on weekends and be available to resolve issues as needed

· You are required to work Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm cst
