Job description

Leidos has an opening for a ICS/SCADA & Critical Infrastructure Engineer in Reston, Virginia. The primary focus of this group is understanding commercial and heavy industrial facilities, as well as the interoperability of systems managed by industrial control systems (ICS) and building management systems (BMS).

Candidates must bring a creative yet practical approach to identifying and solving challenges involving these interconnected systems in customer environments. Successful candidates will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to producing thorough, high-quality work.

The selected candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of government and contractor personnel conducting strategic and critical facility analysis with a focus on industrial control systems. Work will be performed in a fast-paced, high-energy environment within a government SCIF.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Use tradecraft exploitation tools, intelligence sources, and engineering expertise to characterize selected facilities.

  • Provide engineering guidance and technical judgment throughout the characterization process to produce accurate intelligence assessments.

  • Develop formal products in accordance with customer requirements.

  • Support the development of innovative approaches to solve complex engineering challenges.

  • Brief senior officials on capability trends, findings, and analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • Required Clearance: Must possess an active and in-scope TS/SCI Polygraph clearance. This requires US Citizenship.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts within a technical discipline, with a broad understanding of related specialty areas.

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM field (e.g., electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline) and 4+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • 2+ years experience with industrial control systems and/or complex building management systems.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems.

  • Strong background in control systems engineering and either electrical or mechanical engineering.

  • Experience with complex industrial process control systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief and interact effectively with senior officials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or certification.

  • Military or defense-related experience.

  • Experience with:

    • Rockwell PLCs (or comparable platforms), HMI, and SCADA programming.

    • Allen-Bradley, FactoryTalk View, GE Fanuc, Modicon, Schneider Electric, Siemens S7, DeltaV, Wonderware, and Emerson Ovation systems.

    • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).

    • Building Management Systems (BMS), Access Control Systems (ACS), video management systems, industrial HVAC systems, and central utility plants.

    • Industrial processes within water/wastewater, nuclear, data center, cogeneration, and combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP) environments.

    • Complex cooling systems, including cooling towers, chillers, UPS systems, and power monitoring solutions.

  • Cybersecurity and/or penetration testing experience.

  • IT and networking certifications (e.g., CISSP, SSCP, CEH).

  • Familiarity with packet capture and network analysis tools such as Wireshark, Nmap, NetworkMiner, GrassMarlin, SCEPTRE, HELICS, and intrusion detection systems (IDS).
