Job description

Physical Security Systems Technician (Bosch Video)

Hampton VA Medical Center | Hampton, Virginia

Position Type: Full-time contract support

Primary Function: Bosch video surveillance field service, troubleshooting, preventive/corrective maintenance, and project support

Ideal Background: Security camera technician with solid low-voltage installation and IP-network fundamentals

Experience: Target 3+ years in CCTV / IP video / electronic security field service; Bosch experience strongly preferred

Position Summary

We are seeking a Physical Security Systems Technician with practical Bosch video-surveillance experience to serve as the lead field technician for camera-system operations and maintenance at the Hampton VA Medical Center. The role is intentionally field-focused: the technician will diagnose and correct camera and connectivity issues, support repairs and replacements, assist with security-system projects, and maintain reliable day-to-day operation of installed video infrastructure. Strong low-voltage cabling skills are highly desirable and can offset gaps in product-specific experience when the candidate has proven IP-camera and electronic-security troubleshooting ability.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide field troubleshooting and operational maintenance for Bosch IP cameras, including fixed and PTZ devices, associated mounts/housings, power, network connectivity, and related video-system components.

· Diagnose camera outages, intermittent video, poor image quality, PTZ/control problems, PoE/power faults, network-link issues, damaged cabling/connectors, device configuration issues, and other common field conditions.

· Remove, repair/replace, reinstall, aim, focus, configure, and validate cameras and associated field hardware in accordance with approved work orders and manufacturer guidance.

· Support Bosch Video Management System (BVMS) and related video-system activities at the field-technician level, including device discovery, basic configuration validation, recording/connectivity checks, alarm/event verification, and collection of diagnostic information for escalation.

· Coordinate with management, customer security personnel, network staff, vendors, and Bosch technical support when faults extend beyond field-level repair or require software/server engineering.

· Perform preventive maintenance inspections, condition assessments, cleaning, connection checks, firmware/configuration verification when authorized, and documentation of recurring or lifecycle-related issues.

· Support security-camera projects including surveys, device replacement, relocations, new installations, camera coverage verification, commissioning, and post-installation testing.

· Install and troubleshoot supporting low-voltage infrastructure such as Category 6/6A cabling, patch-panel and device-side terminations, PoE network connections, pathways, cable supports, labels, grounding/bonding, and equipment mounting.

· Use common test tools to verify copper cabling, PoE/power, network link, and physical connectivity; isolate whether a failure is device, cabling, switch-port/power, configuration, or upstream-system related.

· Maintain accurate ticket notes, device records, test results, serial/model information, maintenance history, photos, and as-built updates; identify parts/material requirements for corrective work.

· Follow site safety, customer security, infection-control/occupied-facility procedures, and Federal facility access requirements. Support scheduled after-hours maintenance or project work when required.

Minimum Qualifications

· Three or more years of hands-on field experience with CCTV, IP video surveillance, electronic security systems, or closely related low-voltage systems.

· Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot IP cameras and field devices from the physical layer through basic network connectivity, including Ethernet, PoE, addressing concepts, switch-port/link status, and device communication.

· Experience installing, replacing, aiming, focusing, testing, and documenting fixed and PTZ cameras and associated mounts/housings.

· Working knowledge of structured cabling practices, copper termination/testing, labeling, pathways, and telecommunications-room patching.

· Ability to read floor plans, camera schedules, device lists, wiring diagrams, work orders, and manufacturer documentation.

· Strong customer-service and documentation skills with the ability to work independently and escalate appropriately.

· High school diploma or equivalent; technical school, apprenticeship, military electronics/security training, or equivalent field experience is acceptable in lieu of a degree.

· Ability to satisfy customer onboarding, background suitability, badging, safety, and site-access requirements.

Preferred Bosch / Security Qualifications

· Bosch BVMS Technical Certification or current Bosch Security and Safety Systems Academy training in BVMS, Bosch IP video, or related video products.

· Hands-on experience with Bosch PTZ and fixed IP cameras, Video Recording Manager (VRM), BVMS Operator/Configuration Client, or Bosch recording appliances.

· Prior experience working with Bosch technical support, firmware/configuration tools, device replacement procedures, and video-system commissioning.

· Experience with other enterprise video platforms or camera manufacturers is valuable and will be considered transferable when paired with strong troubleshooting skills.

· Experience with access-control, intrusion-detection, panic/duress, or other electronic security systems is a plus but is not required.

Preferred: Low-Voltage / Networking Credentials

· BICSI Installer 1, Installer 2 Copper, BICSI Technician, or equivalent low-voltage credential.

· CompTIA Network+, Cisco networking fundamentals, or comparable practical IP-network training.

· OSHA 10, lift certification, or other relevant field-safety training.

· NICET electronic security/video credentials, ESA training, or equivalent manufacturer/security-industry certifications are beneficial but not mandatory.

We are not seeking a narrowly specialized software engineer. A strong security-camera field technician with good low-voltage fundamentals, IP networking knowledge, and the ability to learn the installed Bosch environment can be successful in this role. Conversely, a Bosch-experienced technician who can also terminate, test, and troubleshoot the supporting cabling infrastructure would be an especially strong fit.
