Circle Saw Filer – Job Description

Position Summary

Thompson Hardwoods, Inc. is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Circle Saw Filer to join our sawmill maintenance team in Hazlehurst, Georgia. This position is responsible for maintaining, sharpening, repairing, hammering, and troubleshooting circle saws and related cutting equipment to support efficient sawmill production operations. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, experience with saw filing equipment, and a commitment to safety and quality in a fast-paced hardwood sawmill environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, sharpen, tension, level, and maintain circle saws and cutting equipment
  • Diagnoses saw performance issues and make necessary adjustments or repairs
  • Operate saw filing, grinding, and hammering equipment safely and efficiently
  • Maintain proper tooth patterns, alignment, and saw balance for optimal cutting performance
  • Replace teeth, bits, shanks, and related saw components as needed
  • Monitor saw condition and production quality to minimize downtime
  • Work closely with millwrights, maintenance personnel, and production supervisors
  • Maintain filing room organization, equipment cleanliness, and tool inventory
  • Follow all lockout/tagout procedures and company safety standards
