Weekend Safety Data Analyst information

What does a weekend safety data analyst do?

A Weekend Safety Data Analyst is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting safety-related data during the weekend shifts, often in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, or healthcare. Their main goal is to identify risks, monitor safety incidents, and provide actionable insights to improve workplace safety, all while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. They typically use data visualization tools and statistical methods to generate reports and support decision-making. This role may also involve collaborating with safety managers and other departments to implement safety improvements based on weekend trends.

What are the typical responsibilities of a weekend safety data analyst, and how does the weekend schedule impact collaboration with other teams?

As a Weekend Safety Data Analyst, your main responsibilities include monitoring, analyzing, and reporting safety-related data trends during weekend shifts. Since you’ll be working outside standard business hours, you may encounter challenges such as limited real-time access to other departments or support teams. However, strong documentation and asynchronous communication are vital to ensure your findings are shared effectively with weekday teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to identify emerging issues early and contribute to continuous improvement in safety protocols, often leading to advancement within data analytics or safety management fields.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend safety data analyst, and why are they important?

To excel as a Weekend Safety Data Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a background in data analysis or statistics, often supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency in data visualization tools (like Tableau or Power BI), spreadsheet software, and safety management systems is commonly required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills help you interpret data effectively and collaborate with teams. These skills are vital for identifying safety trends, ensuring compliance, and supporting continuous improvement, especially when working independently on weekends.

Do weekend safety data analysts work on weekends?

Weekend safety data analysts typically work during regular business hours on weekdays, but some roles may require weekend shifts to monitor data in real-time or support ongoing safety initiatives. The schedule depends on the employer and the specific responsibilities of the position.

Job description

The Data Analyst will work on site at our corporate office in Ft Lauderdale Florida and is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from vehicle telematics systems to improve the safety, efficiency, and cost performance of Hotwire Communications’ fleet. This role transforms raw GPS, engine, fuel, and driver-behavior data into actionable insights that guide day-to-day operations and long-term fleet strategy. The Data Analyst partners with operations, safety, and maintenance teams to reduce operating costs, improve vehicle utilization, support regulatory compliance, and strengthen the company’s fleet risk management and insurance programs across all markets.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  1. Collect, validate, and analyze telematics data—including GPS location, fuel consumption, engine diagnostics, idle time, and driver behavior—across the fleet to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  2. Build and maintain dashboards and recurring reports on key fleet metrics, including utilization, fuel efficiency, driver safety scores, and maintenance flags.
  3. Monitor daily telematics exceptions and anomalies, investigating issues such as route deviations, excessive idling, and unexpected downtime, and recommend corrective actions.
  4. Support preventive maintenance scheduling by tracking mileage, engine hours, and diagnostic trouble codes.
  5. Partner with Operations, Safety, and Maintenance teams to translate data findings into policy and process improvements.
  6. Analyze driver-behavior data and support coaching programs to reduce harsh braking, speeding, and other risk events.
  7. Manage telematics device installations, configurations, and data integrity; troubleshoot hardware and connectivity issues with vendors.
  8. Track and report on regulatory compliance data, including hours-of-service and electronic logging device (ELD) records, as applicable.
  9. Conduct cost analyses on fuel, maintenance, and vehicle lifecycle to support budgeting and procurement decisions.
  10. Optimize routing and scheduling using telematics insights to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  11. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for telematics data collection, reporting, and quality control.
  12. Evaluate and recommend telematics platforms, tools, and integrations to enhance reporting accuracy and automation.
  13. Prepare and present findings and recommendations to operations leadership and other stakeholders.
  14. Support audits and risk assessments related to fleet performance, safety, and asset utilization.
  15. Analyze accident, incident, and claims data to identify loss trends and support the company’s fleet insurance program and policy renewals.
  16. Build risk-scoring and exposure reports that inform premium negotiations, loss-prevention initiatives, and targeted safety interventions.
  17. Partner with Risk Management and Insurance teams to provide telematics and safety data supporting claims, subrogation, and audits.
  18. Ensure data security and proper handling of fleet and driver information in compliance with company policies.
  19. Other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or a related field required

  • Strong Excel skills and experience with BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and/or SQL
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, ELD requirements, and transportation safety standards
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with fleet risk management, insurance, or claims data preferred
