Job description

Position Summary:

The School Bus Driver is responsible for transporting students safely and efficiently to and from school, field trips, and other school-related activities. This role requires adherence to traffic laws, school policies, and safety regulations to ensure the well-being of all passengers.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a school bus on assigned routes and schedules.
  • Pick up and drop off students at designated stops in a timely manner.
  • Ensure students follow safety rules while boarding, riding, and exiting the bus.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure proper operation and safety.
  • Report mechanical issues or needed repairs promptly to the transportation department.
  • Maintain accurate records, including daily logs, mileage, and student incidents.
  • Assist students with special needs as required, including securing safety equipment.
  • Follow established emergency procedures in case of accidents or other incidents.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior.
  • Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and students regarding safety or transportation issues.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements.
  • Clean driving record and knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Previous bus driving experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage student behavior calmly and effectively.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance checks and report mechanical issues.
