Job description

Organ Procurement Surgeon CLEVELAND CLINIC

The world class cardiothoracic surgery program at Cleveland Clinic's Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute is seekingOrgan Procurement Surgeons to join our cardiac surgery program. The surgeons will be appointed as a Clinical Associate with excellent compensation, comprehensive benefits package, and a collegial work environment.

Cleveland Clinic Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute performs over 5000 cardiac operations annually, while both our heart and lung transplant services are among the busiest in the nation with more than 150 thoracic transplant yearly. This allows a unique opportunity to advance technical skills and gain operative experience in cardiothoracic transplantation.

Clinical responsibilities include:

  • Evaluation of transplant organs and organ procurement, including DCD heart and lung procurement
  • Participation in ex-vivo heart perfusion and normothermic regional perfusion
  • Exposure to and education in ex vivo lung perfusion
  • Participation in ECMO cannulation and management
  • Opportunity to participate in and develop expertise in heart and lung transplant operations and post-transplant management
  • Opportunity to participate in nontransplant operations., including all aspects of cardiac surgery
  • Opportunity to participate in research

Requirements:

  • Previous surgical experience with heart and lung procurement

Graduate of a US ACGME-accredited Thoracic Surgery Integrated Residency, Thoracic Surgery Traditional Fellowship, or Canadian accredited Cardiothoracic Residency.

  • International applicants (if from a non-accredited program) must have a minimum of 2-3 years of fellowship experience in the United States and be fluent in English.
  • Eligible for Ohio State Licensure
  • Interest in education and research are highly valued

Candidates must possess strong surgical skills, exceptional collaboration, and communication skills.
