Registered Nurse – Practice

Laredo Physicians Group (LPG) providers take pride in delivering high-quality care for our community. Our offices offer primary care and various specialty services. Our physicians are well experienced, and with diverse backgrounds, they share a passion for serving the healthcare needs of families. LPG is affiliated with Doctors Hospital of Laredo, whose care network encompasses two freestanding emergency rooms, and an outpatient clinic with ancillary and surgical services.

The Registered Nurse – Practice (RN) is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care duties which include assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. The RN is responsible for interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), venipuncture and procedures as directed by the physician. Documentation is recorded in the Electronic Medical Record in accordance with IPM guideline. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Assists in covering the front desk as required. Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response. Delegates as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act. Refers to and consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent and resolve problems or concerns. The RN educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.

Job duties/responsibilities include ensuring patient rooms and equipment are kept stocked and clean, managing referrals, pre-authorizing prescriptions and clinical tests, handling patient prescriptions, scheduling tests, contacting patients with lab results, sending necessary letters, performing clinical duties such as triaging, checking vitals, administering injections, prepping for exams, and conducting various clinical tests, labeling specimens, completing lab slips, assisting with patient information forms and charting, adhering to IPM Safety and Quality guidelines, engaging clients in care plan development, triaging patient concerns, responding to crises, and performing advanced nursing procedures under supervision.

Qualifications requirements include graduation from an accredited nursing education program, licensure by the state to practice as a registered nurse, current BLS/CPR certification, minimum of one to three (1-3) years working as a registered nurse, and three to five (3-5) years of related experience (preferred).
