Job description

The Behavioral Health Assistant is a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse or Mental Health Professional, the Behavioral Health Assistant promotes patient satisfaction, comfort and safety utilizing principles of wellness and recovery. The BHA assists with the admission, treatment and discharge of the inpatient behavioral health patient through measures such as: planning and implementing activity group sessions, reinforcing education and documenting outcomes

  • Interacts with the behavioral health patient using principles of therapeutic communication.
  • Implements diversionary group activities, documenting patient response and participation.
  • Assists the Registered Nurse and Mental Health Professional with Wellness and Recovery groups.
  • Reinforces the educational material initiated by the RN or Mental Health Professional.
  • Participates in unit safety activities.
  • Under the direction of the Mental Health Professional helps implement the discharge plan including scheduling appointments for outpatient follow up.
  • Accompanies the admitted patient to any treatment or activity scheduled off the assigned unit.
  • Responds to any behavioral health emergency, assisting as needed.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a social science.
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Prior experience working with behavioral health populations. 

Minimum rate of $20.64 Hourly
