Job Description:
The Research Security Analyst serves a critical role in advancing Louisiana State University's research security posture by supporting compliance with federal mandates, including NSPM-33 and the CHIPS and Science Act. This position is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating internal risks to the university's research enterprise, while developing and delivering comprehensive research security training programs for faculty, staff, and students. The ideal candidate brings a balance of analytical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and communication skills to strengthen institutional safeguards, promote a culture of compliance, and protect sensitive research.
Job Responsibilities
Internal Threat Analysis & Risk Mitigation: Conduct proactive and reactive assessments of internal threats to LSU's research environment, including risks related to cybersecurity, data security, intellectual property, and unauthorized disclosures; Monitor and assess risk indicators associated with research personnel, collaborations, IT security, compliance, and funding sources; Collaborate with compliance, legal, IT security, and human resources to investigate and resolve security concerns; Develop risk assessment methodologies and reporting frameworks to support institutional decision-making; Support incident response efforts related to research security breaches or policy violations; Maintain documentation and reporting aligned with federal research security requirements. (30%)
Research Security Training & Program Development: Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive research security training program in compliance with NSPM-33 and the CHIPS and Science Act to continuously improve research security training programs for faculty, staff, and students; Develop training materials, guidance documents tailored to faculty, staff, and research personnel; Track training completion and ensure institutional compliance with federal mandates; Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor on research security best practices; Promote awareness of emerging threats and regulatory changes impacting the research enterprise. (30%)
Policy & Compliance Support: Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of research security policies and procedures; Provide guidance to principal investigators and research staff on security-related requirements and risk mitigation strategies; Ensure alignment with federal guidelines, sponsor requirements, and institutional policies; Support audits, assessments, and reporting related to research security compliance; Monitor changes in federal regulations and recommend updates to institutional practices. (20%)
Collaboration & Communication: Partner with internal stakeholders across academic and administrative units to strengthen research security practices; Provide guidance and support to principal investigators and research staff on compliance requirements; Prepare executive-level briefings, reports, and risk summaries for leadership. (15%)

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Public administration, security studies, intelligence analysis, compliance, or a related field. Knowledge of federal research compliance frameworks or willingness to develop expertise in NSPM-33 and related regulations.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply-a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D., J.D., or M.S. in research security or intelligence and 3-5 years of experience in compliance, risk analysis, research administration, or security-related roles. Experience in higher education, research administration, military intelligence, or federal intelligence environments. Familiarity with insider threat programs, risk assessment tools, or investigative processes. Experience developing or delivering training programs. Understanding of international research collaboration risks and export control considerations
