Job description

The Energy Storage System Engineer supports energy storage power system engineering and project engineering from development through operations. The successful candidate will be an individual contributor with energy storage expertise and a passion for de-carbonization. The individual will need to navigate the transition from a startup company to a larger organization, while working with internal and external stakeholders.

This is a full-time position and the preference is for the team member to be located in the Boulder, CO or surrounding area, with the ability to be in the Boulder office at least two of the five working days in a week.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Supporting engineering due diligence for greenfield development and operating energy storage resource acquisitions
  • Engineering efforts for development, project execution and operations of energy storage resources
  • Development and management of tools and systems for the engineering of energy storage systems
  • Supporting energy storage equipment cost management and continuous improvement.

Essential Responsibilities:

The position will be responsible for the following items, as it relates to energy storage systems and their components. Responsibilities may arise beyond this, as necessary for a growing company.

Engineering

  • Engineering support for development, execution, origination, and operations functions
  • Engineering specifications and standards management
  • Engineering tools development and management
  • Technology road mapping and deployment strategy
  • Implement research and development opportunities
  • Process development
  • Services development
  • Design phase management of 30/60/90/IFC design lifecycle

Procurement

  • Support procurement strategy
  • Major equipment supplier contract execution and management
  • Manage major equipment supplier relations
  • Management of third-party consultants and engineers of record
  • Develop and maintain of energy storage pricing tool
  • Assist with EPC pricing tool development
  • Development of technical specifications and performance requirements

Operations

  • Performance engineering for operating assets
  • Recruitment, development, and retention of engineering talent
  • Implement file storage and document management standards
  • Early-stage third-party O&M provider support

Required Skills/Experience

Desired candidate will have the following skills or experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in related field - engineering, mathematics, physics, IT, computer science of related field
  • 5+ years’ experience working on energy storage system technologies, in a project ownership role.
  • Development, engineering, procurement, construction, and operation of energy storage systems
  • Study, sizing and data analysis of complete energy storage systems via homegrown or industry accepted program
  • Assisting in the modeling of energy storage economics for utility scale projects
  • Operations experience of energy storage assets
  • Experience supporting contract negotiation for equipment supply, service, and EPC agreements
  • Prior experience working with Owner’s Engineers and Engineers of Record
  • Experience with electrical single line diagrams, mechanical drawings, and network diagrams.
  • Experience with TCP/IP networking, switches, LAN and WAN configuration and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience with mechanical packaging for electrical products

Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $190,000. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, technical skills, education, certifications, and alignment wit the role's responsibilities, as well as internal equity considerations.

Bonus: This position may be eligible to receive an annual cash incentive bonus capped at a % of your base salary and on your performance review.
