Job description

Travefy is at the center of operations for modern travel agencies.

More than 50,000 travel agencies and advisors run their business on Travefy. They design stunning trips and itineraries, manage clients with our CRM, market their brand, and handle the back office, from invoices and forms to commissions, all in one place. We bring together everything an agency needs to grow, so advisors can look like pros and spend more time wowing their clients.

A new generation of advisors is entering the industry, and the opportunity to shape how leisure travel is sold has never been greater. Join us in building the tools that power an industry.

About the Role

As a Software Engineering Team Lead, you'll play a pivotal leadership role on a cross functional squad, combining hands on engineering with team leadership, mentorship, and delivery ownership. You'll write and ship code regularly, roughly 60 percent of your time, while guiding your team's technical direction and helping it deliver consistently.

Team Leads at Travefy lead from within. You'll share technical leadership of your squad with another senior engineer, carry a small number of direct reports, and partner closely with Product and Design to turn priorities into shipped, high quality work. You'll set the engineering bar through your own contributions while removing blockers, surfacing tech debt, and growing the engineers around you.

If you're a seasoned full stack engineer who still loves to build, leads by example, and is energized by helping a team do its best work, you'll feel right at home here.

What You'll Own

Technical Contribution & Delivery

You'll lead by doing, staying hands on while making sure the squad ships.

  • Write, review, and ship high quality code across the full stack for user facing features and platform improvements.
  • Keep individual contributor work a core part of the role, setting the standard through thoughtful implementation and code review.
  • Help the squad deliver on its goals by managing work intake, sequencing priorities, and removing blockers early.

Technical Leadership

You'll guide architecture and technical direction alongside another senior engineer.

  • Shape system design and architectural decisions, and facilitate sound, well socialized technical choices.
  • Advocate for engineering priorities like tech debt, tooling, and delivery efficiency across teams.
  • Ensure engineering gives constructive input on cost, complexity, and risk, while trusting Product and Design to lead on solution ideation.

Mentorship & Growth

You'll grow the team through coaching, feedback, and advocacy.

  • Mentor engineers on your squad and across the org through pairing, design guidance, and code review.
  • Support a small number of direct reports with regular feedback and room to grow.
  • Foster an inclusive, psychologically safe environment where engineers feel comfortable sharing ideas and challenging decisions.

Collaboration & Communication

You'll connect disciplines and keep everyone aligned.

  • Partner with Product and Design to align on scope, trade offs, and feasibility.
  • Communicate technical direction, progress, and trade offs clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders.
  • Lead the team through problems with consensus driven problem solving rather than solving around them.

Who You Are

Must-Haves

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, including time in a technical leadership role on a cross functional team.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team through complex technical problems by building consensus, not just issuing directives.
  • Experience building customer facing SPAs and backend services using modern frameworks (experience with AWS, C#, React, or Ember.js is a plus, but not required).
  • Proven ability to balance hands on engineering with coordination, delivery, and leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience mentoring and leveling up other engineers through pairing, feedback, and coaching.
  • Strong understanding of agile practices, lean delivery, and iterative product development.
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable tailoring technical ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Able to thrive in fast moving, ambiguous environments with a high sense of ownership.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in a startup or fast growing environment.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems or service oriented architectures.
  • A track record of improving engineering process, quality, or team collaboration.
  • Emphasis on inclusion, psychological safety, and team culture.
  • Strong documentation and async first communication habits.

Skills Required

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, including technical leadership on a cross functional team.
  • Proven ability to lead engineers and deliver technically complex projects from start to finish.
  • Strong architectural and system design skills, able to drive clarity in the face of ambiguity.
  • Experience balancing hands on coding with mentorship and delivery leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable tailoring technical ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and elevating team wide technical capabilities.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation: $140,000 to $185,000 USD
  • Health, Dental & Vision insurance for you and your family
  • 401(k) with automatic company contribution
  • Unlimited Vacation + Annual Travel Stipend
  • Annual team retreats to exciting destinations
  • Technology, learning budgets, and more

Location & Eligibility

This is a full time role, available remotely in the U.S. or from one of our offices in Lincoln, Nebraska; Omaha, Nebraska; or Pennington, New Jersey.

At this time, we're not considering applicants who need immigration sponsorship (additional work authorization or permanent work authorization), now or in the future, to work in the United States.
