Job description

Description
Penlink is a technology company bringing clarity to complex data for people who need it now. We partner with law enforcement agencies across the United States, offering a software solution to manage data and aid investigators solving crimes. It sounds like a lot of data and analytics, but really, it's about improving the world and keeping safe the places we call home.
We focus on creating products that positively impact our communities and being "in the mission" and less about the laidback culture and amazing benefits - even though we offer those too. With our get-it-done attitude and focused mission, we are growing at an unprecedented rate and are seeking a Reporting Experience - Team Lead to lead a team responsible for delivering the reporting, visualization, dashboarding, mapping, and desktop analysis experiences that help investigators turn complex data into actionable intelligence.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, provide ongoing feedback, and support the career development of team members.
  • Own the performance management process, including goal setting, performance reviews, and development planning.
  • Partner with HR on compensation planning, promotions, employee relations matters, and succession planning.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable team culture.
  • Monitor team health, workload, engagement, and morale, taking proactive action when needed.
  • Drive architecture and design decisions, balancing business requirements with scalability, reliability, maintainability, security, and compliance.
  • Establish and uphold engineering standards and best practices consistent with Penlink's architecture and development principles.
  • Identify and remove technical, organizational, and process obstacles that impact team effectiveness.
  • Champion continuous improvement in development processes, tooling, testing, and CI/CD practices.
  • Perform code reviews that improve software quality and support engineer growth.
  • Contribute to technical designs, prototypes, architecture discussions, and production code where appropriate.
  • Support the development of reporting, visualization, dashboarding, mapping, export, and integration capabilities within PLX.
  • Advocate for the thoughtful adoption of AI and emerging technologies that improve customer outcomes and engineering effectiveness.
  • Participate in operational support, incident response, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Partner with Product Management, Software Architects, and other Engineering leaders to align execution with product strategy and customer needs.
  • Represent the team in roadmap planning, architecture reviews, and leadership discussions.
  • Communicate team progress, risks, priorities, and dependencies clearly to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other Team Leads and Engineering leaders to align standards, priorities, and shared services across the organization.

Requirements
YOUR COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE
  • 5 or more years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with C# and .NET technologies.
  • Strong software engineering background with the ability to lead through both technical expertise and people leadership.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop engineers while holding team members accountable for results.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities across delivery, quality, team health, and long-term strategic goals.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design principles, and modern development practices.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience with technologies such as .NET, WPF, gRPC, Oracle, and Azure DevOps.
  • Experience developing complex desktop or enterprise applications.
  • Experience leading software engineers in a Team Lead, Technical Lead, Engineering Manager, or similar capacity preferred.
  • Experience developing reporting, visualization, analytics, dashboarding, mapping, or investigative software solutions preferred.
