Job Summary:

The Upstream Leader - Oil and Gas will be responsible for leading and managing the bank's strategic relationships and financing activities with clients in the U.S. oil and gas sector. This includes all sectors of the industry: upstream, midstream, and downstream. The role involves delivering tailored financial solutions, overseeing origination and execution of complex transactions, and driving revenue growth through relationship management and strategic advisory.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Sector Leadership and Strategy

  • Define and lead the bank's oil and gas sector strategy, aligning with global energy trends and corporate objectives.
  • Monitor market developments, policy changes, and energy transition trends to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Position the bank as a key player in U.S. oil and gas financing, while building a diversified client base across the sectors and financing structures.
  • Represent Huntington at industry-related events.

2. Client Relationship Management

  • Build, develop, and manage senior-level relationships with oil and gas clients
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, providing strategic financial and industry insights.
  • Lead client coverage teams to deliver integrated banking solutions including lending, capital markets, cash management, and derivatives.

5. Team Leadership and Talent Development

  • Recruit, manage and mentor a team of bankers and analysts.
  • Work with portfolio, product and credit partners to recruit and develop teams supporting the business
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on client service, innovation, and risk management.
  • Drive internal training and knowledge-sharing initiatives around the oil and gas sector.

6. Risk Management and Compliance

  • Ensure transactions comply with regulatory, environmental, and internal risk standards. Maintain sound credit judgment and oversight of portfolio risk.
  • Develop and maintain industry front-end guidance for the industry including risk appetite, sub-sector focus, credit structure standards, etc.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field or 20 or more years' experience in Oil and Gas sector corporate or commercial banking in lieu of BS degree
  • Strong understanding of oil and gas industry drivers's, market dynamics, financial modeling, and industry regulations
  • Proven track record in originating and executing complex transactions, including partnership with capital markets and investment banking colleagues
  • Deep client network in the energy sector and established relationships with law firms, engineering firms and other businesses supporting the industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or CFA preferred
  • Upstream Oil and Gas leadership experience
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • 20+ years of experience in oil and gas sector corporate or commercial banking coverage with 5+ years in a leadership role
