What is a weekend remote project manager?

Weekend Remote Project Managers are professionals who oversee and coordinate projects for organizations during weekends, working remotely rather than onsite. Their role involves planning, executing, and monitoring project progress, ensuring that objectives are met within deadlines and budgets. They communicate with team members, stakeholders, and clients primarily through digital tools, handling tasks, resolving issues, and maintaining project documentation. This position is ideal for those seeking flexible work schedules or supplemental weekend employment, and requires strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend remote project manager?

To thrive as a Weekend Remote Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, experience with remote collaboration, and a relevant degree or certification such as PMP or Agile Scrum Master. Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Trello, or Microsoft Project, as well as communication platforms like Slack or Zoom, is essential. Exceptional time management, proactive communication, and problem-solving abilities help you excel in coordinating distributed teams outside standard business hours. These skills ensure that projects stay on track, stakeholders remain informed, and challenges are addressed efficiently despite the constraints of remote and weekend work.

How does a weekend remote project manager typically collaborate with team members and stakeholders across different time zones?

As a Weekend Remote Project Manager, you'll often coordinate projects with team members and stakeholders who may be working on different schedules or in various time zones. Effective collaboration relies on clear communication, utilizing digital tools like project management platforms, and setting regular check-ins or updates to track progress. You may need to schedule meetings outside of typical business hours and ensure that documentation is thorough so everyone stays informed. Building strong relationships and being proactive in addressing potential bottlenecks are key to success in this remote and often asynchronous environment.

This is for a dynamic and forward-thinking Workday Project Manager to lead medium to complex projects in a fast-paced, global, multi-national organization. This role is pivotal in driving HR Digital Transformation initiatives, leveraging cutting-edge technologies, and delivering impactful solutions.
We will count on you to:
  • Lead one or multiple projects with Mercer clients across diverse business units, focusing on HR Digital Transformation initiatives such as Workday implementations, automation of HR processes, and adoption of AI-driven HR analytics.
  • Communicate effectively and influence stakeholders at all levels, including presenting to C-suite executives during Executive Steering Committees using virtual collaboration platforms and data storytelling techniques.
  • Thrive and be motivated by an environment that embraces AI and technology-enabled tools.
  • Develop and oversee project plans with clear milestones and deadlines, co-created with business users and aligned with digital transformation goals.
  • Track and manage project costs using cloud-based financial tools, ensuring accuracy and transparency in all Mercer-related documentation.
  • Assign responsibilities, monitor team progress, and drive on-time, on-budget delivery of HR technology solutions, leveraging agile and hybrid project management methodologies.
  • Identify and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle, using data-driven tools to anticipate and address challenges.
  • Enhance program and project management capabilities within your portfolio, integrating digital HR solutions to maximize business value and ROI.
  • Maintain high visibility on initiatives through engaging, tech-enabled communication-think interactive dashboards, virtual town halls, and stakeholder updates.
  • Ensure comprehensive scope documentation at project kickoff, continuously refining it as the project evolves and managing scope changes with precision.
  • Confirm compliance with internal policies and external regulations, including data privacy and security standards critical to HR systems.
  • Spot opportunities to introduce Mercer's broader service offerings-like HR analytics, talent mobility platforms, or digital employee wellness solutions-to clients.

What you need to have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, HR Technology, Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management or consulting experience, ideally in Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) or HR Digital Transformation projects.
  • Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently, lead teams, and inspire collaboration in hybrid or remote work environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills, adept at virtual presentations, stakeholder engagement, and translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical mindset with advanced problem-solving skills, including experience with HR data analytics and digital process optimization.

What makes you stand out?
  • Hands-on experience with Workday (e.g., HCM, Recruiting, Payroll, or Analytics modules) and familiarity with HR tech trends like AI, RPA (Robotic Process Automation), or cloud-based integrations. Workday Certification Preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of project lifecycle methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, SAFe).
  • Proven proficiency with modern tools like Office365, Microsoft Project, Power BI, Tableau, Jira, Smartsheets, and/or Asana.

Why join our team:
  • We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
  • We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.
  • Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
