This position requires a strong understanding of client IT processes and technology stack, including DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines, Cloud One environments, and Oracle/Java-based systems operating across classified and unclassified DISA and cloud environments.
The Senior Software Systems Engineer works across multiple Scrum teams and a Kanban-based Operations & Maintenance (O&M) workstream to ensure system architecture, interfaces, and integrations are aligned and efficiently progressing through the DevSecOps pipeline. This role guides technical decision-making, manages system dependencies, and ensures solutions remain aligned with program priorities and mission objectives.
What you'll do
  • Lead system design, architecture, and integration across multi-tier, distributed applications
  • Ensure solutions align with DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines, enabling continuous integration, testing, and deployment
  • Collaborate with development, DevSecOps, Cloud Engineering, QA, and security teams to ensure end-to-end system performance and reliability
  • Define and maintain system interfaces, data flows, and integration patterns
  • Support requirements analysis and decomposition, ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with system architecture
  • Guide development teams on best practices for scalability, performance, and security
  • Oversee integration of applications across cloud and on-premise environments
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, system dependencies, and performance bottlenecks
  • Ensure alignment with client standards and compliance requirements across classified and unclassified environments
  • Contribute to technical documentation, system diagrams, and architecture artifacts
  • Develop and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps) to build, test, and deploy applications.
  • Embed security tools for code analysis (SonarQube) and container scanning (Docker/Kubernetes) within pipelines to ensure compliance.
  • Utilize tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Bicep to provision and manage cloud/hybrid infrastructures.
  • Implement RMF (Risk Management Framework), STIGs, and Zero Trust principles to meet Department of Defense Cybersecurity standards.
  • Collaborate on architectural design to ensure systems are deployable and scalable, often supporting DoD Programs.
  • Guide junior engineers in DevSecOps practices, automation techniques, and secure coding principles.

Qualifications
  • Secret - Fully Cleared Only, must confirm clearance is active
  • DoD 8140 intermediate certification or DoD 8570 IAM Level II certifications or higher
  • US Citizens Only
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 8-10 years experience in software systems engineering, system architecture, or technical leadership roles
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices
  • Experience designing and integrating enterprise or mission-critical systems
  • Proficiency with Java or similar object-oriented technologies
  • Experience working with cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS or similar platforms)
  • Strong understanding of API design, system integration, and distributed architectures
  • Ability to work across multiple teams and technical domains

Preferred
  • Experience working with Agile development teams of 20+ FTEs and be familiar with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience supporting DoD or Air Force systems
  • Familiarity with Cloud One environments and secure DevSecOps practices
  • Experience with Oracle or enterprise data platforms
  • Knowledge of microservices architectures and containerization
  • Experience operating across classified and unclassified (DISA/cloud) environments
