Job Summary:
The Associate Director of Nursing Informatics provides strategic and operational leadership for nursing informatics across Geisinger. Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO), this role partners closely with nursing informatics leadership to lead, support, and develop the Nursing Informatics team within IT. Responsible for ensuring alignment between nursing practice, clinical operations, digital health strategy, and enterprise priorities. This role serves as a key liaison among nursing leaders, clinicians, IT, analytics, quality, education, and operational stakeholders to optimize the electronic health record (EHR), clinical workflows, and data-driven nursing practice across the continuum of care.
Job Duties:
  • Serve as a senior nursing informatics leader, advancing the CNIO's vision and Geisinger's digital nursing strategy across multiple care settings.
  • Translate nursing and clinical strategy into informatics priorities, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes aligned with organizational goals.
  • Represent Nursing Informatics on system committees, governance forums, and enterprise initiatives.
  • Oversee nursing informatics participation in EHR design, build, testing, optimization, upgrades, and system-wide initiatives (e.g., Epic governance, clinical decision support, documentation optimization).
  • Ensure nursing workflows are evidence-based, user-centered, compliant with regulatory requirements, and supportive of safe, high-quality patient care.
  • Lead or sponsor complex, cross-functional informatics projects impacting nursing practice, patient outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor informatics-related issues, risks, and dependencies; proactively escalate and resolve barriers.
  • Provide direct leadership, coaching, and mentorship to nursing informatics leaders and team members.
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture focused on accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the CNIO and nursing informatics leadership on workforce planning, role clarity, onboarding, performance management, and professional development.
  • Support succession planning and growth pathways for nursing informatics staff.
  • Ensure informatics solutions support nursing quality metrics, patient safety initiatives, regulatory compliance, and accreditation requirements.
  • Use data, analytics, and frontline feedback to evaluate the impact of informatics interventions and guide ongoing optimization.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to nursing leaders, frontline clinicians, educators, quality teams, and operational partners.
  • Collaborate closely with IT, clinical informatics, analytics, and digital innovation teams to ensure integrated, sustainable solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with executive leadership and diverse clinical audiences, translating technical concepts into actionable insights.
  • Responsible for coordinating Information Technology support for assigned segment of the organization.
  • Strives to gain and maintain an understanding of the business policies and practices employed in the areas of responsibility.
  • Works with department, product line, or system leadership to develop and implement Information Technology strategy.
  • Conveys IT strategy to staff and ensures that plans are implemented in accordance with organizational need.
