CAMP FOOD SERVICES ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION:
Camp Food Services Assistant positions are open at this beautiful 300-acre camp in Oracle, Arizona, just north of Tucson. This position supports the work of the YMCA of Southern Arizona, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, at the Triangle YMCA Ranch Camp and Retreat Center. The Food Services Assistant assists in the preparation and service of meals, snacks, and beverages in accordance with Federal, State, Local, and the YMCA of Southern Arizona established standards, policies, and procedures. The Food Services Assistant will clean dishes, work areas, and dining rooms and will provide quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations within budgeted guidelines. This position will be involved with many tasks that go into the well-being of the staff and campers.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A FOOD SERVICES ASSISTANT:
• Assists with activities of food preparation, clean up, and stocking foodstuffs and kitchen supplies.
• Is knowledgeable and adept about the rules and guidelines of food handling.
• Maintains work areas and serving areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition; washes and cleans counters, tables, and walls; washes and stores pots, pans, trays, and kitchen equipment.
• Operates a variety of kitchen equipment such as a dishwasher and oven.
• Washes glassware and other implements by hand, as necessary.
• Heats, portions, and serves food according to established procedures.
• Assists in storing unused food and supplies; disposes of unusable leftovers and garbage.
• Empties and cleans trash receptacles.
• Rotates dishes to reduce wear and tear on resources.
• Cleans up spills and broken glassware immediately.
• Reports all sanitation or janitorial issues to appropriate party.
• Maintains professional manner and appearance.
• Ensures the safety and well-being of consumers by maintaining professional boundaries, completing required abuse risk management training, following procedures for high-risk activities and supervision, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and adhering to mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Actively participates in program activities, events, staff meetings, and staff training.
• Follows all YMCA procedures, policies, guidelines, and protocols.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS OF A FOOD SERVICES ASSISTANT:
  • At least seventeen (17) years of age.
  • Posses an Arizona County Food Handler Certificate
  • Current CPR, AED, & First Aid certifications or completion within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Current Arizona fingerprint clearance card (if aged 18 years or older)
  • Completion of YMCA online training upon date of hire and periodically thereafter.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • At least six months of relevant experience working with large group cafeteria and/or family-style service preferred
  • Excellent Customer service skills.
  • Display a positive attitude toward children, families, and staff with a willingness to help other and demonstrate good communication skills.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
