The Radiology Technologist , with a limited radiology technician license, performs x-rays in the diagnostic setting following established radiologic and regulatory requirements to ensure patient and staff safety and provides support for clinic operations (clinical and clerical) as directed and based on training, education, and competency.
The Limited Radiology Technologist
  • Performs x-ray on patients for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes within the licensed scope of practice, as directed by provider.
  • Operates highly specialized equipment, including DR (Digital Radiography) and PACS (Patient Archive Communication System).
  • Ensures equipment is in good working order and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Reports concerns or malfunctions to practice manager and submits appropriate work order.
  • Performs quality control checks/audits on radiologic equipment.
  • Maintains records/logs of activities, including x-rays sent out to other facilities.
  • Maintains neat, clean, and well stocked work area.
  • Prepares patient for radiologic imaging, including patient identification, order verification, explaining of the procedure and answering patient questions.
  • Positions patient and adjusts equipment to acquire quality images of body area, as ordered by provider.
  • Observes patient during exams for discomfort or distress and takes appropriate action.
  • Interacts with electronic medical record for patient orders and inputs appropriate data.
  • Responds to provider's questions regarding exams.
  • Maintains competency in all areas of responsibility, by seeking regular continuing education, completing Carilion Clinic annual in-services, and annual competencies.
  • May perform venipuncture and cardiac monitoring for imaging.
  • Follows established radiation protection processes and the ALARA principle.
  • May occasionally travel to nearby centers to receive training and/or provide work coverage.
What We Require:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduated from an accredited school or program of Radiological Sciences - Limited.
Experience: None required.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Limited Medical Radiology Technician license in the State of Virginia, required. Ability to obtain AHA BLS-HCP certification within 30 days of hire, required.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required. Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical record.
