Position Summary
Professor of Practice or Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor
Indiana University Indianapolis
Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology at Indiana University Indianapolis is seeking applications for a full-time (10-month) non-tenure track Professor of Practice or Clinical Assistant/Associate position with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026. The position focuses primarily on teaching, mentoring, and applied engagement rather than traditional research expectations, though applied scholarship and practitioner publications are encouraged. This Professor of Practice or Clinical track position will be appointed within the Psychology Department, and the successful candidate will be a core member of the I/O Psychology program faculty.
Primary responsibilities include supporting the non-thesis I/O Psychology M.S. program through teaching graduate-level, practice-focused courses (e.g., personnel selection, applied methods, training and development, organizational change, leadership, and performance management), mentoring students through consulting projects, applied capstones, and professional development, building external partnerships to expand internship placements, client-based learning opportunities, and community collaborations, collaborating with faculty on program leadership, curriculum development, and continuous improvement initiatives, and contributing to the School of Science's mission by advancing applied learning and fostering links between academia and industry. Opportunities for summer teaching for additional salary are available. There are no research expectations, but applied scholarship and practitioner publications are encouraged.
The non-thesis M.S. program builds on a long-standing highly reputable thesis based I/O master's program with alumni placed in many consulting/industry organizations as well as highly competitive doctoral programs. The Psychology Department has 24 full-time faculty, over 700 majors, and approximately 55 graduate students. In addition to the I/O Psychology M.S. program, the department offers Ph.D. programs in Clinical Psychology and Addiction Neuroscience.
Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) and training in I/O Psychology, Organizational Behavior, or a closely related field and applied experience (consulting, human resource analytics, organizational research, organizational development, or related practice). The Clinical Professor is an open-rank position and qualifications for assistant or associate will be commensurate with the recommended rank.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement outlining teaching/mentoring philosophy and experiences (up to 2 pages), a brief statement outlining professional practice experience and how it informs your teaching (up to 2 pages), and name and contact information for three references through the online application portal.
The Indiana University Indianapolis campus is located near downtown Indianapolis, a city that uniquely combines the cultural amenities of urban life with the residential qualities of smaller communities and is highly affordable. As the major center for industry and government within the state, Indianapolis has a wide variety of research and training sites.
As the state's premier urban research institution, IU Indianapolis is committed to being a welcoming campus community. We seek candidates who will pursue the highest standards of academic excellence and whose research, teaching, and community engagement efforts contribute to welcoming, respectful, and inclusive learning and working environments for our students, staff, and faculty.
Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2026, and continue until the position is filled.
