Purpose of Role:
The Platform Engineer helps the team create a platform where building, testing, and the releasing of software can happen rapidly, frequently, and reliably. The role is a DevOps advocate who works closely with development and operations teams improving the collaboration whilst removing any impediments through automation, improved tooling, or processes. The role is a key role in a multi-disciplined team building and operating a new security conscious cloud environment.

The Technology Department delivers differentiation, scalability and security for the business. Reporting to the COO, Technology provides digital tools, software services and infrastructure globally to all business groups. Software development and support teams work in agile 'streams' aligned to specific business areas. Our other teams work enterprise-wide to provide critical services including our global service desk, network and system infrastructure, IT operations, security, enterprise architecture and design.
IT runs Marex's enterprise-wide services to end users and actively manages the firm's infrastructure and data to provide and accelerate business value. A Data team enables the firm to leverage data to increase productivity and improve business decisions, as well as maintain data compliance. The Infrastructure group delivers operations and engineering across Infrastructure Operations, Network, Communications, Endpoint and Platform Engineering teams with a key focus on Infrastructure as Code/automation & innovation. IT also includes the global IT Service Desk providing support and self-service to business users across Marex, and our Service Management team that runs core ITSM processes and develops our departmental tooling.
The Platform Engineering function strives to automate infrastructure management and provide Marex Technology team with self-service tools and workflows with the aim to streamline software delivery and accelerate the pace of innovation.
***This role is based at the Chicago, IL office and requires at least 3 days per week in the office***
Responsibilities:
  • Build and operate a platform used by development and operations teams to provision their infrastructure and run their applications in the cloud and on premise.
  • Perform weekend work as necessary to carry out maintenance, participate in on-call duties, and respond to support escalations to ensure the operational health of the platform.
  • Support any teams using the platform as required.
  • Deliver continuous integration and development platform that integrates seamlessly with the development tools already in use and ensure its effectiveness to deliver software rapidly.
  • Improve the developer experience, facilitate developers in building cloud infrastructure, and deploying their applications free of impediments.
  • Develop policies, standards, and guidelines for IAC and CI/CD that teams can follow.
  • Propose and implement workflow and toolchain improvements to automate repetitive tasks.
  • Ensure security and governance are considered a priority by applying security practices as a part of the SDLC and developing and enforcing policies.
  • Collaborate with teams on architectural design and cloud best practices.
  • DevOps advocate to educate and promote DevOps practices across technology.
  • Stay abreast of Cloud and DevOps industry best practices and tooling.
  • Ensuring compliance with the company's regulatory requirements under the SEC, FINRA, NFA, CFTC and other applicable exchanges.
  • Adhere to the operational risk framework for your role ensuring that all regulatory or company determined parameters are complied with.

Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field desired
  • At least minimum five (5) years of experience in Financial Services industry. Ideally would like ten (10 years of experience).
  • Experience working closely with development and operations teams throughout the SDLC, implemented CI/CD effectively and deployed into Cloud environments with IAC.
  • Experience in deploying and running applications securely in AWS or Azure, familiarity with cloud native tooling and cloud security best practices.
  • Experience building and operating containerized workload and used serverless technology
  • Proficiency in scripting with programming languages Python or PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Puppet or Ansible.
  • Experience monitoring in the cloud using tools such as CloudWatch, Splunk, DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana
  • Broad technical knowledge with a background in Linux Engineering or Development/Automation.
  • Experience with fast-moving Agile environment using Scrum or Kanban.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary Range: $100,000 to $180,000 per year and eligible for discretionary bonus.
