Job description

Job Title: PLC Controls/Automation Engineer   |   Req ID: 16112   |   Location: Portland Cement Plant CO

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Automation Engineer is responsible for plant process control system [PCS] specification, application programming, testing, commissioning and maintenance. The incumbent applies the PCS as a tool for improvement of plant performance including rate, availability, OEE and MTBF. Other responsibilities include facilitating use of the PCS as a resource for Process, Maintenance, Production, Shipping, Environmental and Quality Departments. 


WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Manage and maintain all process related hardware, software and documentation within the confine of the control room and server room.
  • Support the maintenance and operation of plant electrical systems and troubleshooting of electrical and control system problems.
  • Working knowledge of PLC programming and process control systems (ControlLogix, PLC-5, and SLC 500). Experience in instrumentation, motors, starters and VFD's, communication networks (Modbus, Modbus Plus, Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, etc.).
  • Prevent downtime due to faults; continuous improvement to extend the life of existing PCS and facilitate eventual upgrade or replacement.
  • Programming of Rockwell Contrologix PLC's, Factorytalk View se HMI's, plant pax,VMWare Network Virtualization.
  • Support installation of new plant equipment from conception to operation. Assure integration of new systems into plant operations.
  • Use of the PCS to provide information for management or other reporting functions (high degree of involvement with environmental reporting and permit compliance).
  • Maintain a standard set of specifications for consistent application related to modifications or additions.
  • Maintain, organize, prepare, review and revise drawings as required.
  • Extensive knowledge of instrumentation, high-level control and expert systems, PLC control and machinery interlocking systems, variable speed drives and motor control systems.
  • Identify improvement opportunities to maximize equipment life cycle and efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Electrical Supervisor, Process Engineers to analyze, improve and document all aspects of operations.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors. 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor's degree preferred
Field of Study Preferred: Electrical Engineering or similar field 
Required Work Experience: 1-3 years 
Required Computer and Software Skills:  SAP, AutoCAD, VMWare, Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
Additional Requirements: 

  • Self-starter/ highly motivated team player.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit test.
